Any way, shape of form a US kid can find help to make it to Europe is a good thing. Being a Chamakh or Bendtner may be a pinnacle on CJ's achievement anyway ... and it would be quite a high one for an American. Personally, I think he is athletically made for France - not there technically and tactically yet - and there are more than a few places that would teach him how to become a decent attacking threat. If you look at top forwards that came out of France over the last decade or so - Anelka, Drogba, Cisse, Remy - there are a lot of similarities there (there are also, of course, a few target types like Chamakh and Giroud). So, it's still remote ... but makes a lot of sense also.
Rose-colored glasses everywhere here. Sapong is not good enough for Arsenal. He's not even good enough for QPR. This move is not happening.
I guess it kinda makes a little sense. But if we were really going to offer 3M for Sapong, why not kick in a few extra mil and get Jozy Altidore, who is younger, more talented, and much further along? Arsenal only paid 1M for Joel Campbell and he has more potential than Sapong. If it's true that the club is looking at Sapong, I doubt it would be paying the price quoted.
1. it's not true 2. Jozy is a different type of player. He's not a target man and probably never will be.
Not the first team. A bid for 1 million came in this winter from Turkey and was rejected https://t.co/5W9HjlkHnv— Kevin Kinkead (@Kevin_Kinkead) August 2, 2016
I think that's the only reason they could refuse 1 million dollars for him. I have a hard time believing this report is super legit. I think if it was the offseason they could easily pick up another striker with that money in hand. I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go this summer if the money is similar.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenal_de_Sarandí Who finished 28th in the Argentine league last time - and still weren't relegated!
Arsenal Kiev went far beyond relegated - they were disbanded! In any case, I do find it weird that Turkey is making the headlines with regards to the transfers from MLS. There's definitely money there though.
I couldn't agree more, it seems strange. Especially strange that some non-national teamers are linked. Gyasi seemed plausible but Sapong seems odd. I also saw Sean Franklin of DCU get linked a short time ago. Maybe this league growth starts, today it's turkey and Israel who want our players maybe tomorrow it's Spain and England.
i've always wondered why we didn't see more of 2nd/3rd division clubs in England and Germany and Scandinavia raiding NASL/USL for quality players for cheap. They go to scout MLS players and spend an extra week scouting a USL player and net some gems.
Spending time scouting hundreds of players on other continents to find a few is not cheap, particularly when you already have those level players already on your roster.
Well, English clubs are subject to the work permit rules. Unless there are Euros hiding out in USL/NASL, they won't be able to bring them over.
great point that you and the following poster made. but mostly some gems in MLS and USL if only clubs took the risk. But far easier to mine SA or African clubs and get them super cheap i suppose.
I agree if we're talking first division clubs with large budgets or 2nd Division clubs with big ambitions. For most 2nd or 3rd Division club to scout in far off lands is much less feasible.
The report didn't come from MLSTransfers (he tweeted out interest from Vitória S.C.). Kinkead reported the $1 million offer.
Yes, I can buy the Turkey interest last winter (as reported from Kinkead). I have more doubts about interest from Portugal right now.
