We drew Porto, since we are seeded we get the home leg last. Since United are also seeded they get the home leg at the same time, which means that we have two choices. 1.) play the 2nd leg at 5pm on a Tuesday to not interfere with the Champions League, or 2.) Play the 2nd leg on the road instead of the first. They are seated higher than we are in Europe.

If we win we'll face the either Legia Warsaw or Sporting Lisbon in the round of 16.

Re: City in the Europa League Discussion

If we win trophies this season we will have earned them the hard way. No rag-like luck, we've had difficulties in EVERY competition:

    1. League - having to play away after every Champions League game.
    2. Champions League - the "group of death", recognised by many as the toughest CL group since Barca/Bayern/United/Brondby in 1999.
    3. FA Cup - rags in the 3rd round.
    4. Carling Cup - Arsenal in the quarters (while the rags got Palace and managed to mess it up!), Liverpool in semis.

Porto is probably the toughest draw we could get - Portuguese champions, reigning Europa League holders, a good team. If we beat them the next round draw actually looks easier. Our fixture pile-up worsens and we keep drawing difficult matches in cup competitions, no luck at all. Mancini should go all out to get De Rossi and maybe another centre-back, while pressing ahead to get a work permit for Mohammed Abu now that he's been capped by Ghana and is said to be a special player (has been on loan in Norway).

UEFA are corrupt to the very foundations.

Another example... City are being forced to hold the 2nd leg (at our stadium) at 5pm. 5pm on a working night, meaning thousands and thousands of fans won't be able to go because they will be at work or just coming home. All about profits with UEFA.

I'll be going but have to make arrangements so I can get there at that time.

I don't understand this at all. Do they think that city vs porto in the Europa League will really damage the CL games that night?

Re: City in the Europa League Discussion

They'll want City vs. Porto on TV around Europe before the Champions League games and not clashing with it. All down to money and profits really at the expense of the fan. Just like these FFPR rules that some people are cheerleading will only hurt the fans as clubs have to put up ticket prices to increase revenue. UEFA are a disgusting organization in all honesty, just like FIFA. Corrupt sycophants like Platini and Blatter with old world prejudices and nothing but self-interest in mind.

Indeed, he was dying to send someone off! Same twat who fell for Kiev's diving antics last season when we played them.

But WHAT a result! Porto are immense at home, nearly impossible to beat, and we did it with two away goals to boot.

MotM for me has to be De Jong, a titan in midfield and back to his best.

A win at Porto was a fantastic result. Since we are out of the FA Cup a Europa League run shouldn't be hurt our league chances too much. I'm sure UEFA will do everything they can to have a Semi or Final featuring Utd/City

I almost got a Yellow Card, and I was sitting on my couch. Balotelli was the only one who behaved himself.

City fouls were actually bad. I mean when that Porto man was being carried off on a stretcher, crying with a broken leg , that ref pulled out a yellow and showed it to him while he was being dragged off, crying.

After the surprisingly high 6-1 aggregate win over Porto, we face Sporting CP in the last 16! On paper an easier game but you can take nothing for granted in this competition as we found out against Kiev last year. United were also very lucky to advance past Ajax tonight and have Bilbao next, which won't be an easy game.

Good memories for me, first time I ever watched City live was Sporting vs City in NY a couple of summers ago, hoping for a different result from then :)

Don't really think you lot have a chance this time round . We got a utterly brilliant defender named polga - former world champion with brazil playing for us . He loves getting stuck in . As good as balotelli and aguero and dzeko may be I reckon they are in for a long night against the veteran centre half . Bruno Pereirinha another young lad to watch out for, brilliant going winter reminiscent of a young Christian Ronald except without the diving and pestilence typically associated with Portuguese footballers like Ronaldo . Bruno is more a jolly ol chap in the mould of sir Stanley Mathews . Other quality players include CARILLO Rinaudo Schaars and capel. Btw the legendary boss Malcolm Allison also coaches sporting in the early 80s to much aplomb . With respect to you laddoes I wish a good game and a sporting victory . Let's go lions !

Of course we have a CHANCE. :D

We aren't United fans so won't say "We'll win easily" but we have a chance of winning over two legs, we beat Porto 6-1 over two legs remember and we have a good squad filled with quality players. Anything can happen, we went out to Kiev last season but I think we taking the Europa League more seriously this season.

I know Sporting always produces good players and there was talk of a partnership between our two clubs at one point but I don't think that happened.

As for Malcolm Allison, I forgot he'd managed there. He is a City icon and the Joe Mercer/Allison era was our most successful ever, although that could change soon. :p

I'm sure it will be a great match over two legs, I like playing European teams because they play to win. 80%+ of our league games now involve the opposite team with 10 men behind the ball trying to stop us scoring.

Should be a good match. Depending on who starts in the center of our defense, this can either be a blow-out (in favor of MC of course) or a close game. Best of luck to both teams.

Yes Malcolm Allison managed us in the early 80s winning the league and cup double in 81/82 . Since then we've only won two more league titles in 99/00 and 01/02 and won't be winning another any time soon the way our club is being run

Not so obvious regarding Polga. He made two complete group stage appearances for the eventual champions in 02.
