http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/sto...t-the-official-site-of-2013-mlb-all-star-game I know there was talk of that possibly being a case and i can see it now more than ever being the Mets are desperate for income and are not going to be competitive for a few years That being said - does the news above eliminate any chance of 2013? Even though 2013 looks like a pipe dream now.
Unless they buy Chivas USA (or some other team) and move them to be NYC2, 2013 is not happening anywhere. The last several expansions saw two full seasons pass before they began in MLS.
After seening some of the latest outfield wall re-construction photos. Are we sure a soccer field will still fit ? I was pretty sure it would when the plans first came out, but I'm not 100% now.. May have to give blood at CitiField this afternoon to check it out..
Just thought I might include this link in the thread: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16752531.stm Mexico-Wales possibly in the Bronx.
Had not heard that match, but I did hear Liverpool mentioned as having a match up in New Yankee Stadium
Shortest time from announcement to first game? Chivas USA, 243 days (August 2, 2004 to April 2, 2005). Longest? Philadelphia, 756 days (February 28, 2008 to March 25, 2010. The average for 10 expansion teams has been 488 days, but for the last four it's been 724 days (basically two years). The last four have also had to have stadiums built or re-done. 2013 doesn't look likely, but, then....it wasn't likely that this would all be sorted out by then anyway. It's a big task. I don't know how much MLS' life being made easier by there being an even 20 teams as opposed to an odd 19 teams factors into their decision making, but I'm going to guess it's more than a tiny bit and less than the number one factor.
That's interesting I would imagine if they can get a stadium solution sorted out (Long term) then MLS is going to want that team in as soon as possible. If your saying Chivas was able to do it in under a year, i could see them not needing 2 full years. Dunno - all matters not without the stadium plan.
And as you know, the time between today and when a stadium solution is finalized is very likely longer than the time between team announcement and first game.
Apparently $ talks.. The Boston Globe reports “The game would be part of a tournament involving Chelsea FC and, possibly, Celtic FC. Matches will also be held in Chicago (Comiskey Park or Wrigley Field) and New York (Yankee Stadium).” http://www.thisisanfield.com/2012/01/liverpool-to-play-at-fenway-on-us-tour/
http://articles.boston.com/2012-01-16/sports/30632434_1_liverpool-fenway-sports-group-roma Scheduled for the end of June (if it happens).
Looks like a potentially spectacular day for international soccer in the metro area...Trophee des Champions at RBA that afternoon...let's hope the Roma match at CitiField is scheduled for 7pm kickoff.
http://thisiscosmoscountry.com/?p=1918 Extra parking could be coming to Citi Field area - i think this could open up the parking lot of Citi Field as a potential stadium location.
I talked to the Mets - heard from a source there that the ROMA game fell through - apparently didnt work out how they want it and they are looking for other games to host.
And if the temporary stadium was the Yankee Stadium ? http://gothamist.com/2012/05/23/more_soccer_coming_to_yankee_stadiu.php
wow this sucks i was hoping to see this game in flushing.... man the METS JUST CANT DO ANY THING RIGHT!!!!
I am hoping they get a game in flushing too - not sure what happened - just my contact said Roma game fell through.
no one knows for sure. it is presumed they are out, but no one officially said they are. Garber still mentions Flushing Meadows Park, which to me, means they have to be involved in some capacity. No way they are going to let another venue be build in Flushing Meadows without being involved some way.
