My commiserations, in advance. I think the CIS Cup became a lot more interesting when it began to involve national teams instead of clubs. Hopefully it gains more popularity in the coming years.
I preferred club sides, liked to see the old Soviet League sides go at it. Unfortunatly other tournaments or preparing for other tournaments took precidence.
Russian Football Federation with the head of Gazprom are preparing a project to provide a CIS championship with 2 leagues. But 2 days before Blatter in a press-conference in Sankt Petersburg said that he is against such championship((. Let's see what happens next.

I lost complete focus on this tournament after I assumed that a group stage would be played for the losing teams just like last year, but it wasn't and somewhat i lost focus. It's amazing that Lithuania came 4th yet drew with last placed Turkmenistan. Would like to see the tournament played in other countries in the future, but can't see that happening.
Kyrgyzstan who got 9th place also drew with champions Russia like Uzbekistan. The rankings would be much better for Asian teams, if there were a good refereeing. Yes, when it was provided in Uzbekistan, I believe all matches would be much crowded, but here we have seen matches with almost absolutely empty fans. But anyhow, this tournament is living because of Russian federation who is organizing and financing it, so hard to imagine the tournament to be played in other countries.
2014 edition got underway yesterday GROUP A: Ukraine, Tajikistan, Estonia, Kyrgyzstan GROUP B: Russia, St Petersburg, Lithuania, Moldova GROUP C: Belarus, Moscow, Kazakhstan, Latvia This year, no Uzbekistan due to AFC U22 Championship, no Turkmenistan. Both AFC teams in the same group. All national sides are U21, not sure about the two city teams.
I wish Iran would be invited to CIS. On a regular basis. The one time where Iran was invitied and played was when Sardar Azmoun (target striker) became the top scorer of the tournament, and attracted the interest of Rubin Kazan and earned himself a contract there.
