What if, under the Circle of Honor, we have the Ring of Respectability-- or should that be Responsibility?! This is where all the fringe guys go.
I'd like to see it not just be a fan vote, as that will skew it toward more recent players. I'd have a place for the former players to weigh in too and maybe the media. There's a reason--on one of the recent Beloit Mindset lists it noted "Mickey Mantle has always been dead". I can relate somewhat, as *I* barely saw Mantle play, and that only on a B&W tv (probably only in part of the 1964 Series--but I didn't even see all of that, as they were day games back then). It's clear from the discussion on this board, for example, that we have a lot of true Crew fans who never saw the first team play but have come up since then.
http://www.massivereport.com/2014/4...ve-schelotto-and-warzycha-named-finalists-for I wonder if McBride will vote for Schelotto.
What's going to happen is Schelotto will win the fan vote, the "executive committee" is going to call him and see if he can show up for the ceremony. If he can't, #2 is getting in. If #2 is Warzchya the same process applies. They aren't going to induct someone who isn't present.
In fairness to Friedel, though, he didn't just have "a low GAA in his second season," he had the league's lowest GAA in his second season. If you lead the league in GAA and still finish 14-15, what the hell else are you supposed to do? Score goals for the team, too (they finished second-worst in GF)? I'm not saying Friedel is a stone-cold lock (even if he is the best goalkeeper to ever play for the Crew), but I think his time needs to be looked at within the proper context.
Interesting--but that's one former player voting--plus a bunch of team execs who probably never saw anyone on the list play, as AP has mostly cleaned house.
Could we just induct Nirvana so that the crackwhore Courtney Love could come to Columbus, blubber incoherently, hug people who hate her (Grohl, Novoselic) and generally be booed off the stage? Oh the Rock Hall did that? Good.
I was more upset by them not inducting the drummer from 1/3 of their history as a band, but the Rock Hall is a joke anyway so I won't lose any sleep over it.
If I can't vote the Crewzers into the Circlejerk of Honor, then there is only GBS and Frankie in my mind when it comes to the shortlist. But I agree with oboe, Saint Dunc deserves to be included and, IMO, in the circle someday.
The three worstest of the worse people that have ever lived are Hitler, Courtney Love and Nancy Grace
LOL... you know... I made the comment knowing that THAT was the only weakness in it, but hoped that you would not call it out.... Nice going. If I wasn't at work, I'd find the Chappelle song "I'm Gonna Piss on You"
These people are not NEWS..they are "TV Personalities" , whose job is to gain attention, so they and the networks flourish. This is accomplished (both sides of the spectrum) by picking and chosing what they want to talk about, taking the most extreme angles on the story, and finding a way to blame someone else. They do this because they know 50% of the people will eat up the rhetoric like candy, and 50% will despise them and talk incessantly about how horrible they are. The responses here are a complete WIN for Nancy Grace....
Meanwhile, channels which are supposedly news, such as Al-Jazeera(*) get cast aside for being some sort of "terrorist network." (*)I can't watch a minute of Al-Jazeera, as my TV service doesn't carry it, but I hear it's quality journalism.
http://www.thecrew.com/news/2014/05/circle-honor-2014-candidate-spotlight-mike-clark Things like this remind me of why I love this team so damn much.
