Why am I not surprised to see W. L. Craig's name in association with that. It really is just making stuff up.
your question completely ignores everything we know -- have known for ages -- about human nature. the idea that man is inherently good is philosophically untenable.
again, if you are concerned about what happens to those pagan souls, i think it's very insensitive of you not to pass the word about Jesus along. how would something that is obviously less "evolved" than a human have more powers than a human god? but God has let them know of his existence. you simply refuse to see as cogent evidence the visible creation. Jesus said that people will always be seeking a miraculous work to prove that which has been already demonstrated. you understand this as prophetic, correct? did it occur as prophesied in Isaiah? is the LORD Almighty responsible for the specific conduct of the Medes? if you want to understand the big picture, rather than simply find fault with God, then you would need to have some perspective on what God had been doing regarding the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel.
lol Keep up the salad work, Royal. maybe one day you'll be successful in converting someone to your cult.
Your the cool guy who can't answer a question. Keep on making ridiculous claims based on something you read in the good book, the rest of us will enjoy real life. Well, unless you are one of the millions of children starving to death in Africa while Jesus rewards Tim Tebow for his piety. Those kids probably aren't enjoying real life at all.
Haha, what? Visible creation is the evidence of the existence of God. Because things exist God must have made them. I see, but that argument would really only 'work' against an atheist. Tons and tons of other cultures have seen the 'evidence of visible creation' and attributed to some other gods. What about visible creation screams 'oh yea, it was definitely Yahweh, and not Brahman? Your evidence is simplistic to the point of ridiculousness.
don't be silly. Jesus isn't rewarding Tim Tebow for his piety. you have no idea what's going on in that realm. as far as starving children in Africa/Asia/Central America are concerned, how many kids are you supporting? more than my wife and i, probably...
What would you expect? He is a self described converted fundie. They are the worst kind because having come to the religion later in life they have that voice in the back of their head resisting all the batshit crazy they now "believe". It takes alot of work to out shout that whimpering echo that constantly fights against the invasion of young earth logic into the poor sod's brain. So the "logic" deployed comes across as more ridiculous and the arguments more shrill. He quite literally can only quote the bible at you because doing anything else would weaken his resolve.
Do tell. At least you admit that since your god isn't doing anything for them, despite all the prayers I'm sure are directed their way, that it is up to your inherently evil man to take care of them ourselves.
i'm not sure what speedcake is, but i think it's time for you to lay off. really. you're damaging yourself. just what is Tim Tebow doing that you object to? is he living an immoral life? did he shoot your dog?
More enigmatic gibberish, assumptions about everyone seeing what you see I guess. Ah! Revealing nonsense. How did you get to "man is inherently good"? Who claims as much? Certainly speedcake hasn't, in fact you've made no attempt to actually engage him on this idea of man's nature but suddenly you're throwing around assumptions about it being inherently good or not. Yes I know you live in a black and white world, but that's not what the real world is like. You are immoral as you showed once again in this thread (saying the wrath described in the Old Testament is the most reasonable response to abject moral corruption, among other things you've said). That doesn't mean everyone else has to have trouble with the very real notion that humans are capable of both good and bad.
I don't object to Tebow. He doesn't matter to me other than I think it's comical that he praises Jesus every time the cameras are rolling. It's rich that you claim I'm damaging myself. Ironic, considering your body of work around here.
i'm old and my body is crumbling. i have carpal tunnel syndrome, and yet, i type on and on and on and on... if you ask his teammates, i bet they say that Tebow praises Jesus when the cameras aren't rolling, and they love the guy. what would you do if the cameras were rolling? the same things you do now?
This thread brought up some good points and questions but it seems to have gone down hill My 2 pesos: it's all interpretation, I, just like the thread starter, have met people who take in the bible as literal, others as poetic and most confused/divided on the issue its not the only religion with this problem, jewish, islamic etc. also show this tendency as for the children in africa problem, plenty of missionaries heading over there now for the folks who are completely cut off or unaware, personally I think that the majesty of nature can be interepreted as god's work but different folks might call god's work something else and it really doesn't matter cause they are talking about the same thing people lose their way when they get caught up too much over the details, but as humans programmed with curiosity its a normal thing and often a necessary one
I'm sure he does, if anything he does seem legitimately crazy rather than just pretending to be to make his parents happy.
You seem to be missing the point entirely, just like Royal. Not surprised. Except that isn't what we're taught in the bible, is it? Call nature whatever you want, but you'd be wrong and hell bound until and unless some Christian missionary comes along to point out your error. Someone either here or in the other thread brought up a good point about god's presence in us being innate and tangible. Or rather, why is it not? Why, if Hindus are just experiencing god's work a little differently than Christians and interpreting it a little differently (lol ok a shit ton differently), are they condemned? Or, more importantly, why don't they just come to the same conclusion that some previously insignificant ancient tribe in the middle east came to? Seems like alot of time wasted for you Christians and your witnessing. Oh yes, because god must test us. Right. Seems super moral.
engage him on this idea of man's nature? do you think there is some level of debate about that issue that needs to be dredged up? his question is pointless. we all know what human nature is like. so saying something like "i'd like to know what you think our 'first nature' is, when i say act thus and so until it's 'second nature' is patently nonsense. all we would do is abuse a deceased equine. very, very little in my world is black and white. there are some thing which are, but not many. i should ignore this kind of poppycock, but i'll just say that your perspective is blinkered by notions you hold about God.
I gave my 2 cents, I don't know what happens to african children, or any other similar situation groups, I posted what I know, nothing more what I have been taught about the bible was someone's interpretation, what you have or have not been taught about the bible may or may not be the same the missionary is free and open to try and convert or teach about the bible, unless the native folks don't want any of it if the missionary's point of view is that I am wrong until he comes along than that's perfectly fine and I respect his or her opinion it's up to me whether I accept certain things or not a Hindu is free to accept that he is or was condemned, or reject the idea if Christians think so than let them continue as long as they don't infringe upon others rights or liberties once again its down to interpretation, a Christian may or may not want to accept that certain ideas have a similar message in other books/religions I haven't read half the bible but I do like some themes and messages it has, but I am not a christian at least not in the mainstream point of view
my god tells me to share what he has blessed us with in a manner which has a real impact on others so they can experience his love. that's how it works. you could be part of that process, even if you don't think that God is prompting you... but you would rather take pot-shots at me. do tell...
you are the one offering up ridiculous ideas to support your extremely blinkered world view. Why don't you give the question a shot? I mean, most of us here know why, but that doesn't mean you can't try.
Well, I'd rather you made an attempt to answer the question, but you avoid it like the plague. Not that I've actually taken any pot shots at you. Maybe at your faith.
