when was the last time the Italian champion, or really the champion of any major league anywhere, didn't have any Brazilians or Argentineans....i thought it was clear that you can't win without arg/bra players on your team lol

i figured it'd be the second tier european leagues that could have champions without Bra/Arg players....even most latin american leagues are likely to have them among their champions.

the other would have been England, where i think Man U won the Premiership without any a couple of years back. overall though, the rule stands: winning teams are 95% likely to have Arg/Bra players

North European countries did not had so much Southamerican or South European players. There was an opinion that Italian, Spanish, Portuguese players cant play in UK, because there is a different style. But this was changed with coaches Rafael Benitez, Jose Mourinho.

For example Juan Sebastian Veron, Diego Forlan, Gabriel Heinze were considered as bad buys at that time in Manchester United. There was one video on Youtube with Forlan who missed the goal from a very short distance, it was empty goal I think.

Also its hard to expect English, German players who play very well in Spain or Italy in this last decade.

Its also rare to see French player in Italy today. French player Jeremy Menez needed to prove himself all the time in AS Roma. He was underrated all the time. Before there was Vincent Candela, Benoit Cauet, Didier Deschamps. French players are not popular in Germany also, except Franck Ribery, but he is on exit doors I think, because of the conflict with Arjen Robben.

Italians always played before in their league, one of the first players who went out were Panucci, Tacchinardi and Tommasi.

I predict that clubs will return soon on old habits, creating their own players. When you look French national team, majority of the current squad players play in French league, which was unusual to see before.

High financial debts will force clubs to create their own players, they will not be able to pay millions of euros for star players. Southamerican clubs are not selling players so fast in Europe, for example Neymar.

Neymar, and Brazil, is a different monster because of the money in soccer in that country...Neymar makes close to 4 million dollars a year at Santos, not as much as he would in Europe but more than enough to make it reasonable to stay.....

with European clubs looking to buy cheaper, south american players are leaving at increasingly younger ages. I don't think many clubs would be able to keep a young star for more than a couple of years before he's off to Europe..... besides Brazil and Argentina (very rarely) its pretty much impossible for a team in south america to pay much more than 1 million dollars to a player in salary, much less refuse a big offer for him...

I think that Southamerican clubs will keep their best players much longer. In todays Argentine national team, we can see that they dont play in best clubs like before, now we have clubs like: Getafe, Sampdoria, Spartak, Nice, Metalist, Genoa.

It was strange to me that Jorge Valdivia is not in one big Spanish or Italian club. With his games on World Cup 2010, he deserved this.

Brazilian players are becoming unhappy in Europe, they lose their performance after few years, or they get involved in some bad things. Economic growth of Brazil and Chile could keep their footballers in their leagues.

Before it was strange to see that best Southamerican players still play in South America. Argentina and Uruguay still sell a lot of players in Europe. European clubs wont be able to buy expensive players, except Chelsea, PSG, Malaga, Manchester City, Anzhi, where money is not such a big problem.

Bayern Munich has a policy with majority of German players, or foreign players who played in other German clubs. In that way they destroy competition in Germany. And now they will play in finals against Chelsea.

Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela will try to sell their best players faster than Brazil or Chile, because of their economies.

Many Southamerican clubs will ask a lot of money for their stars, only few European clubs can follow their desires, majority of them are in serious debts. They cant earn money only from selling uniforms, sponsors and TV rights.

Awards in Champions League and Europa League are not so high, so that they can spend 500 millions of euros for one team.

For example, Croat Luka Modric is priority of Manchester United, but they cant pay around 35 millions of euros for him. They want to send Dmitar Berbatov back in Tottenham, but Berbatov refused this, Tottenham wont accept lower price. Arsenal is also in problems, they sell every year 2,3 key players.

Juventus is not buying like before, they have players from Austria, Switzerland. Majority of them are Italians. This was enough for another title. Europe was spoiled enough with talented and cheap Southamerican players, in the future Southamerican clubs will ask high numbers for their stars. In 10, 15 years majority of Chilean, Brazilian, Argentinian players will play in their leagues or other Southamerican leagues.

EU and the rest of Europe have political and economical problems. Every decade European countries have a new political color, leftists, rightists, populists, people change their habits and try to change politicians, because they are unhappy. Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Ireland, Czech Republic are having big problems, other EU countries are trying to save them. New Greek government wants to leave Euro zone, they are against these new EU savings. These issues will affect on European football a lot. True European talented countries will have good national teams in the future. Good example is that foreign players are key players in English league. English stars are getting older. Every European citizen hears everyday on TV about crisis, savings, salary reductions, crisis in Euro zone.

the analysis is optimistic from the south american perspective, but the reality is that in most cases the best south american players will still be moving on to Europe and elsewhere.

Its not about how much money they have, but rather how much they're willing to spend. European teams don't appear to be curbing their spending, despite struggling economically. Besides, lower transfer budgets will lead them to try to snatch up cheap young south american talent and turn them into stars before their value rises too much - like what Udinese has done with Alexis Sanchez and Mauricio Isla, among others. In Chile we've recently seen young players like Bryan Carrasco, Matias Campos Toro, Cristobal Jorquera, Diego Rubio having been bought by European teams waaaaay before they've consolidated their play.

These guys jump immediately on opportunities to go to mid level european teams and continue their development ... and Chile has become a sort of exposition ground for Argentinians who come here and play well for half a year and then go off to a bigger team in Argentina or Europe... With the exception of Matias Rodriguez, hanging onto to these guys is nearly impossible...and he'll be leaving soon enough too.

Certain Brazilian and Argentinian players might be an exception, but most south american league's don't have players worth crazy amounts of money. Even the best players in Chile wouldn't fetch more than 5 million - like Marcelo Diaz, probably by far the best Chilean player in Chile....

Regardless of the national economies, south american clubs still largely remain poor and economically fragile..... its rare that they will turn down significant offers, and ditto for the players

I agree, but nice improvment in Southamerican football is that they try to keep those good players. Before Argentina or Brazil did not even ask their players from Ukraine, Russia, Greece to play for them. I remember few Southamerican players that did not got any chances in Brazilian natioal team, even today: Alex Alves, Marcelinho, Ailton, Paulo Rink, Cacau, Breno...etc. Only few clubs have unlimited financial background, others have huge debts, its only a time when will those banks ask for money. Portsmouth is gone in financial sense, Glasgow Rangers, Valencia, Deportivo La Coruna, Celta Vigo, Liverpool cant follow Manchester City and United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

They are protected because they are global clubs, they evolved above their countries, but somebody will ask their money one day, banks, shareholders, interest groups...

The catch is in the fact that Southamerican clubs wont let their best players so cheap, like before. Country economy influences a lot on football, example is River Plate, they are in the Second Division now. Probably they did not had so much money like before. League finalist), Lens (recent French champions), Hertha Berlin, Koln, Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen (regular Ch. League participant), HSV, Munchen 1860 is gone, Eintracht Frankfurt, recent regular Bundesliga participants (Cottbus, Hansa, Bochum. Duisburg, Unterhaching all gone), Xanthi from Greece, before they were in top five in Greece, Genoa, Fiorentina, Palermo are gone, Inter Milan has a lot of problems with results, AS Roma also, Sampdoria, Rosenborg from Norway (before almost every year in Ch. League), Glasgow Rangers, Celtic Glasgow, Feyenoord, FC Sevilla, Betis Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Villarreal, Zaragoza, Deportivo, Celta, Alaves, Hammarby from Sweden, Grasshopper (Swiss institution, now they will go in qualifications for their First Division status, like River Plate), Genclerbirligi from Turkey, Sturm Graz. These all clubs were regular participants of UEFA Cup (later Europa League); Champions League, or they had good First Division status. Now they are gone from the football scene. If they win national league titles they vanished from European competitions.

Clubs from Balkan Peninsula dont have good results in European competitions, national teams of Romania, Bulgaria are gone. English national team has one player who plays in Turkey. Those players who play in best English clubs are not the key players of those clubs.

We dont see new clubs who replaced those clubs. We see old great clubs, who have today the same influence, but with a lot of debts, like those from the links. I have heard that Liverpool is having financial problems with the new stadium.

Scouts make also a lot of mistakes, players dont become so good like they thought. Only solution is that owners of oil companies buy every great club. But they dont want to lose their money.

Majority of Southamerican countries will have economical problems, they will sell their players in Europe very fast, like Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador. But they will ask a lot of money.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool dont have expensive players like before. Future will bring AC Milan (financial stability), Juventus (home cheap players), Manchester City, Malaga, PSG (unlimited money). Barcelona and Real Madrid will stay in the top, if they resolve their debt, because they have their regional players or money.
