This game will be broadcast live on FSC. Of course, I will have to record and watch later. My son's game is at 11 CST -- right when the coverage will start for the match. Well, Ambrose played in the middle for the reserves against Portsmouth reserves and apparently looked sharp and made some great passes. One led to Lisbie's goal. Based on that alone I would replace Kish with Ambrose. Darren is a much better ball handler and passer and he can defend. My lineup would be: Andersen Young - Perry - HH - Spector Rommedahl - Murphy - Smertin - Ambrose - Thomas Bent Subs: Myhre, El Karkouri, Hughes, Holland, Bothroyd Give Powell and Kish a rest and get some youth on the field. Go you Addicks!
The Addicks need to come out and put Portsmouth away. They are a better team than Portsmouth. Just bury them.
fratton park isn't an easy place to play.. the most energetic crowd I've seen at a ground in england and it feeds energy into the players. I miss their TY Europe sponsorship, there was something about having a heart on a shirt that was neat. anyway, yeah the addicks should bury them.. but don't be suprised if pompey put up a good performance for the TV cameras with the backing of their supporters. hopefully the SE7 faithful will fill up the visitor part of the milton end and fire up the addicks.
Victory is ours. BBC's Lawro predicts a Pompey victory while Sky predicts a draw. Almost every time Lawro picks us to lose -- especially on the road -- we come away with a win. Go Addicks!
Good game boys. I thought we looked rough in the first half, but picked it up in 2. GREAT goal by Romm, and two fantastic pieces of short-range vision by our MVP, Murphy.
Let's keep in mind that Portsmouth is, well, Portsmouth. And they didn't even make Kishishev sweat. Even the commentators noticed that there was no pressure on Kish in the second half. He had freedom to get the ball from defenders, turn and take it up the field. And there's where I do worry about this team. When Kish is on, he can be very good. But watch out. Chelsea is next in a Cup match. They made us pay twice through pressure on Kish. He can cough it up when pressed. So, who can replace him and play good defensively against teams like Chelsea while still being able to handle the ball? El Karkouri? Switch Smertin back and push Kish forward? Holland? Hughes? On the good side, it is nice to see us come back from being down. Murphy kept plugging away. Ambrose and Rommedahl kept running. Ambrose was especially active going forward. Without him in there, we would not have scored at all. Too bad he missed that chance in the first half. What was also interesting was that on Rommedahl's goal, Bent was open but Rommedahl finally showed some guts and took the shot straight away. There was no hesitation. He wanted to score. Let's hope he starts doing that at the Valley as well. By the way, this game provided a couple of firsts. Ambrose's first goal as an Addick. There will be many more. And Spector's first start as an Addick -- which also the first start by an American as an Addick in the Prem. Cool. I sure hope we can purchase his contract down the line. Man U doesn't need him. And with him teaming with Powell, Chrissy's career can last at least two more years before he becomes a coach.
