Well tell that to the folks that made the case that the 4-1-3-2 has a #10 in the CM role, it is always a #8. Note we played the 4-1-3-2 you are suggesting for most of the 2nd half v Honduras -------------Dempsey----Altidore------------- ---------Kljestan---------------Zusi(Jones)----- ----------------------Bradley------------------- -----------------------Edu---------------------- Unfortunately we created very little out of it.
Shea and Donovan aren't playing as of now. So why include them in a formation? It's way to speculative. Build your team around the players you have now. Also, Dempsey isn't good in a 4-2-3-1. I've watched him with Spurs. He's better when he's closer to goal as a pinched in winger in a 4-3-3 or a second striker in a 4-4-1-1. When you ask him to track back and play a significant defensive role as a #10, his abilities are lost in the transition game.
We have no idea if Shea and Donovan are playing in March.. They could very well both be back by then or on the flip side we could have lost 5 other players to injuries. Any lineup a month and a half in advance is speculative But I also already addressed that in an earlier post. Pick your favorites out of Corona, Gatt, Castillo, FJ... yes its young but at this point I am ok with that.
Kljestan looked like he was playing as a left winger, not a pinched-in attacking mid. I don't have any idea what Zusi was doing, as he was invisible other than his handball. The Y-midfield doesn't use a classic #10. But a 4-1-3-2 might use a #10, if you had true wingers on the left and right and a true #10-type available. The US doesn't.
I cant agree with this. Having Jozy and Dempsey standing around, both not playing defence or being involved in build up is something we cannot afford. We did it against Italy, I suppose, but we cant expect to win consistently in concacaf like that. And Herc plays defence but I dont think he has target forward hold up play in him like Jozy does. Playing Clint wide, pinched wing or otherwise, is not a recipe for success.
Well I know we were playing the same 4-1-3-2 that we played v Canada. I know that Kljestan was playing as an inverted AML with instructions to pinch in so Fab could be free to overlap which did happen a few times.
Well, you just named both ways that Clint plays. You apparently don't like him as a wide player, but also say a model like the Italy game, where he was a second forward off Jozy, isn't acceptable either. So how exactly do you suggest we use him?
The way the Spurs used him. Long duck said that he did not like the way Dempsey was used with Spurs. I do.
No I didn't. I said I don't like him in a 4-2-3-1. Spurs really don't play that kind of formation (at least not the same way I'm used to seeing it in the Bundesliga). When Holtby is the CAM, then Spurs look like they're playing a 4-2-3-1, but Dempsey plays higher up the pitch and doesn't cover as much ground. He's more of a withdrawn forward. There's a distinct difference.
I'm talking about when Sandro was playing and the issue was whether or not Dempsey was "shite" (as they say) because his work wasnt adequate in the midfield. The whole issue has been muddled by the return of Parker, departure of Ade for ACON while Defoe was out with Holtby arriving, all at the same time, so it is kind of hard to discuss right now. We shud just drop it.
Let me get this straight you post this: Then post this 16 month old post: (FYI, Impermanence = everything changes) So is your point that I'm not a true MB fan because I was not polishing his ass 16 months ago when he just started at Chievo and his MNT performances were average at best? Guilty as charged! Is your point that since the v Italy match (12 months ago, 4 months after that post) I have recognized that MB's form is fantastic but I am not a true MB fanboy? Guilty as charged!
What I want to see (stick Dolo in there for Chandler if fully recovered): HowardChandler - Gonzalez - Cameron - JohnsonJones - EduDempsey - Bradley - BeasleyAltidore
Base on the current roster, I like to see something like this; ------------Jozy/Gomez----- -------------CD--------------- FJ----------JT----------JJ --------------MB------------ Castillo------------------TC --------Gonzo---Cam------- I think both Shea and Dono will not fit to play against CR in Mar, but I hope JK will bring in 3 or 4 good midfielders (wingers/AM) from MLS particularly guys from the ASN 100 list when this league starts early of Mar.
Updated... Out: Landon Donovan (commitments), Steve Cherundolo (knee), Juan Agudelo (foot injury?) My 23 + 8 man roster. GOALKEEPERS: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson FULLBACKS: Fabian Johnson, Michael Parkhurst, Timmy Chandler, Edgar Castillo; Eric Lichaj DEFENDERS: Carlos Bocanegra, Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler; John Anthony Brooks, Michael Orozco MIDFIELDERS: Maurice Edu, Danny Williams, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi, Sacha Kljestan; Alfredo Morales, Jose Francisco Torres, Joe Corona FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore, Herculez Gomez, Brek Shea, Josh Gatt, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson; DaMarcus Beasley, Terrence Boyd *Beasley, Boyd, Torres, Corona, Orozco, Morales, Brooks and Lichaj all round off my 31 man roster. Some of these guys, I believe it is critical to get them into camps so that they start getting integrated into the USMNT set-up. Others, will provide some insight on playing in Mexico. Costa Rica: -------------E. Johnson----Dempsey---Altidore-------------- -----------------------Bradley----Zusi----------------------- -------------------------------Edu---------------------------- F. Johnson--------------------------------------------Chandler -------------------Gonzalez----------Cameron---------------- -------------------------------Howard-------------------------- Bench: Guzan, Parkhurst, Bocanegra, Williams, Jones, Shea, Gomez Mexico: -------E. Johnson-------------------------------------------Chandler --------------------Gonzalez------Cameron--------------- -----------------------------Howard------------------------ Bench: Guzan, Bocanegra, Castillo, Williams, Zusi, Shea, Altidore
Hahaha Torres at lb. edu and jones both at cb (Granted I'd give jones a shot at it in a friendly but he'd need it be very clear on his role). Dempsey can't play wide anymore cause of lack of d work rate. Unproven Agudelo up top. This isn't fifa its world cup qualifying
Howard Johnson-Edu-Cameron-Chandler Bradley-Jones Beasley-Dempsey-Shea Jozy Bench: Guzan, Gonzo, Beckerman, Parkhurst, Gatt, Klejstan, Gomez
