Arsenal is a good draw I think. Its a big team, but one we should be able to beat fairly handily. I think Shaktar is a really tough draw for BVB. That is exactly the kind of team they will struggle against. I haven't seen any of Galatasaray to comment on Schalke, but they are in horrific form at the moment.
BATE vs Fenerbahce Inter Milan vs CFR Cluj-Napoca Levante vs Olympiacos Zenit St Petersburg vs Liverpool Dynamo Kiev vs Bordeaux Bayer Leverkusen vs Benfica Newcastle vs FC Metalist Kharkiv VfB Stuttgart vs Genk Atletico Madrid vs Rubin Kazan Ajax vs Steaua Bucuresti Basle vs Dnipro Anzhi Makhachkala vs Hannover 96 Sparta Prague vs Chelsea Borussia M'gladbach vs Lazio Tottenham vs Lyon Napoli v Plzen ------ Me likey Chelsea and Liverpool draw... here hoping for not a single ********ing english team in the next round in all the competitions
Poldi and Merte please be quiet.......... I like Arsenal very much and it'll be a hard match but I feel ok to join the quarterfinals, think van Buyten can stop Giroud.....
I seriously doubt Jupp would play a midfielder over van Buyten - as long as he's fit of course, he struggled with injuries all season so far.
Well you guys got what you wanted. Very easy draws overall for German clubs except maybe BVB and Leverkusen.
If there's one word I'd use to describe this matchup, it is "manageable". Bayern should be able too sop an attacking trio of Podolski-Cazorla-Giroud. Stop those three, and Arsenal's attack begins to break down. When Arsenal is in top form, they're good, but when they're in poor form, well, even Messi cannot save that kind of garbage from getting thrown in the trashcan. Podolski's a Bayern reject though, the amateur psychology behind that should be interesting, Gomez is better and more reliable than Giroud, that's pretty much a predetermined fact, the only one that has me worried is Cazorla. Stopping Wilshere will be abit like stopping Holtby against Schalke, just starve him of the ball and don't give him time on it and he fades. I have full faith the ability of Bayern's front-four to tear apart Arsenal's back-four like a starving pack of wolves on deer. This is a match-up tailor-made for Bayern to win; Celtic could frustrate Bayern via bus, Madrid could match us toe-to-toe, and Man United; anything can happen with a team with that kind of attacking firepower.
There's no way Arsenal beat Bayern. One team is approaching its peak and the other is still extremely raw and inconsistent. Dare I say, its the easiest draw we could have gotten?
You can talk about Arsenal's form and that they may be much better come February, but fact is, we're still better than them no matter what. I bet Gomez scores a bunch on them.
I wasn't trying to say that. What I was trying to say is Arsenal has a lower peak and a lower trough than Bayern. At best they're solid, at worst they're garbage.
what? Gladbach got Lazio a very good team and Hannover against Anji. Stuttgart got an easier draw but knowing how bad they can play and lose against teams like Molde we will see. I hope atleast two BL clubs from the EL will go through ,three or four would be excelent but i don't see that happening
This time's different though... The Emirates ain't no Westfalenstadion, Arsenal's been having to fight to keep their head above water ever since October, maybe, and Bayern's breaking all the records this year. Maybe don't you think they can break that trend too against a mediocre team by CL standards?
16.02.2013 - Wolfsburg-Bayern 19.02.2013 - Arsenal-Bayern 23.02.2013 - Bayern-Werder 26/27.02.2013 - Bayern-BVB(cup) 02.03.2013 - Hoffenheim-Bayern 09.03.2013 - Bayern-Fortuna D. 13.03.2013 - Bayern-Arsenal not a bad schedule only Arsenal and BVB tough games other games are manageable
This draw is very managable. But in no shape or form should these guys think they just need to show up and win.. (BATE away) Doing that and we could end up with the biggest embarrassment of the CL knockout.. But otherwise I feel very comfortable with this tie.
I would say Hoffenheim would probably be harder, away at times we have struggled there. Bremen at home should be a pretty clear win.
Bayern are clearly a much better team than Arsenal. That said, the better team doesn't always win. I expect Bayern to go through, of course.
We lost away to Basel last year in the knock out round. The year before we lost to an awful Inter Milan away from home as well. Of course there was the 3-1 hiding at the hands of mighty Bate Borisov this year.
