Anyone with any soccer knowledge also knows that upsets can and do happen. I don't expect us to get the same result when we play in Mexico. We'll probably lose by more than one goal. But you have to admit that even with the pitch like that Santos shouldn't have been dominated the way they were. It could have easily ended with 5 or more goals for the Islanders. Even the guys from Futbol Picante weren't complaining as much about the pitch and said that the Santos players should have done much better.
I agree with you on everything. Santo's should have done better, but I also understand why they didnt. To me its understandable why Santo's players played so bad. The whole first half it was played as if it was beach soccer, they had to flick the ball up to kick it and the game plan for both teams was flick and kick it up as far as you can and hope something happends. When ths happends the team that has the better skills will suffer more IMO.
Keep in mind that this was not normal for the PRI either. From what I understand, this is the heaviest rainfall the island has seen since the 80's. So it's not like PRI were in their element.
Conditions where equally bad for both team, I doubt the Islanders play in pools of water on a daily basis.
2 home games, 2 pools of water but i still doubt the Islanders play in pools of water on a daily basis...
Islanders 2 - Municipal 2 Played in Guatemala For those of you who couldn't watch the game: It was a very important game because: 1st Champions League game for the Islanders on the road We did not play with our "A" team. Actually, if you look at the team we fielded against Santos Laguna - you'll see little resemblance. We played with most of our backup players and still tied We didn't even have out usual goalie (who was just named Goalie of the year for the USL). We didn't even play with out 2nd goalie because he's out for the year with an injury. We played with out 3rd goalie and he still did an awesome job! Unfortunately they tied us right at the end but still a very important win on the road. Particularly seeing as how we have USL semis on Friday
These results are only going to make your club bigger and well known. I'm rooting for you guys and Montreal, Hopefully your team gets so massive in puerto rico that a new stadium is built for you with a proper drainage system for that crazy rain you guys have been getting lately. Its funny Colin Clarke probably played in fields like that back home in his day.
Technically it was the second game since we played Alajuelense in Costa Rica in the preliminary round. but yes it was the first away game in the group stage.
http://www.flashscore.com/detail/soccer.php?match=82031&gmt_offset=-7200&tab=1 says Tauro FC and Santos Laguna each got a red card less than 10 minutes of clock time apart (there was halftime in between). Hay scored for Tauro late in the first half shortly after his teammate Parris was ejected. After Juan Pablo Santiago of Santos Laguna was ejected in the 50th minute, Rojas scored in the 57th minute to put Tauro up 2:0. Torres just replace Castillo in a substitution.
Santos. The current champions of Mexico that were playing with practically their whole starting lineup. Very nice result for Tauro
DGREAT, after all that has happened, even you have to admit that this tournament has been amazing. Every non MLS and FMF team came in with the single goal of winning this thing. You have to admire them for that.
I never said I was against it, matter the fact I was one of the main ones in the mexican forum who stated this has given a great opportunity for other teams to showcase the talent they have. The part that has dissapointed me is the slap in the face MLS gave it to this tournament as if they are actually good in enough to throw these games.
No mamen, Pinches equipos Mexicanos have to start playing with balls. These loses are freaking embarassing for our futbol. One day you got Chivas beating Paranaense with teenagers and the nex, the champion looses to a team from Panama whose combine wages dont reach up to one of Santos players wages. We need to start taking this shit seriously.
Its just embarrasing what Santos is doing, i mean champions of mexico and losing like this full squad and they had chances and nothing. I guess the whole "campeonitis" syndrome does exist with this team. oh well no more saying we have the best league in the region, until they actually show it on the field.
