Good win for UVA last night to go to 5-2 in the ACC. Clemson is a team they should be at home, but the Tigers' big 7-2 dude in the middle, Baciu, gave UVA all sorts of trouble in the first half. Thankfully, Harris and Zieglinski started hitting 3s in the second half to help Virginia get a lead, then they held on with some key free throws by soon-to-be ACC Player of the Year Mike Scott.

UK demolished Tennessee, but looked ugly doing it. No, they played fine, but they wore those new Nike Platinum Air Combat Holy Crap These Suck uniforms, which made them look something like '84 Georgetown.

Thankfully, I think these were a 1-off deal.

Syracuse wore something similar last week, which made all the SU fans I know mad because the last thing those folks want is to look like Georgetown.

Big game for Evansville tonight at MVC cellar-dwellers Bradley. Need to get a win to get to 6-6 in The Valley. UE needs to finish in the top 6 to avoid being seeded into games on the first day of Arch Madness, meaning they'd have to win 4 games in 4 days to capture the tournament and the automatic bid.

    That sucks. Dude's a legend.

I don't remember who it was, but there was a comic who once talked about how if you took a nap on a Saturday, no matter what time you woke up, Soul Train was on.

I didn't realize the show ran as long as it did.

That sucks. Just a couple weekends ago we were watching a Soul Train re-run from '87 on the kitchen TV in our house that's not hooked up to cable. We get this Retro TV, channel 7-1,2 and 2 and Weena asked me if Don Cornelius was still alive as she used to watch Soul Train in the Philippines. Damn, now he's gone.

I only played soccer my senior year of HS—it was a Spring sport—and we had to hire our own coach, as the AD/Football coach wanted nothing to do with it. He wouldn't even let us practice on the football practice field, or even the Field Hockey field (we had a lot of acreage). Instead, we had to practice at the nearest Middle School. Forget home games—every game was on the road; no way he was letting us on the main field, especially since we didn't even practice on the campus.

Until the regional semifinals, when the Principal put enough pressure on him to let us play a "home" game actually at home.

Played the final against Annandale at Annandale.

In football and baseball, we were perennial bottom-feeders. The tennis team did OK. Soccer? With our (quite talented) hired gun, all I can say is it's nice to be champions. :)

Sorry to hear about Don Cornelius. I loved his voice and always thought he had the best job on TV. He was always the consummate professional who seemed to enjoy the entire scene.

absolute shocker about Don C, a real pioneer in TV and Music and one of the biggest reasons Soul blew up like it did

The Times-Picayune is doing a series on the best roast beef po-boys around the New Orleans area and they got to my favorite place in Metairie. Thought you'd be interested, LB.

On first look, I think I agree with Goff about this year's US Soccer Hall of Fame vote -- Etcheverry, Reyna, Meola, Moore are really no-brainers for me. I don't really know enough about the women's game to vote -- I'd just be picking based on stats, so I'll stay out of that one. There are other men in that list I'd consider, but I think those are the four most deserving currently up for a vote.

It was amazing. Almost a religious experience. All the more so since it was my first beef other than in the Chicken Soltani at Kebob Bazaar since my surgery. I am planning to return in March.

Today I am reminded that we were so, so very lucky to have Curtis Mayfield for the time that we did.

    That is all.

a great talent who never got the acclaim he deserved in my opinion, his work in the 70s was amazing and of course his work with the impressions was the soundtrack for 60s civil rights

The gas station last night had gas for $3.49, which I got. Today it's $3.55. The blazer was a quick and easy fix, fb's car got it's work done, and he picked up dinner on the way home so I didn't have to cook. Guinness is in the cooler.

It has been a very good day. :)
