-- Yes, a small upgrade over the previous version, but an upgrade nonetheless.

-- Much like the ongoing Madden and FIFA games, you'll all buy into this new thread as well. :D

    -- Carry on.

    Six point pi

Is that what you promise Meola when you need a two-game winning streak? ;)

Yes, I memorized it to that many digits when I was a kid.

    I'm a dork.

But hat's off to the latest carolinab thread!

I think the only time I have ever used pi in real life, was to figure out how many miles the beltway is. Other than that the number has been pretty useless.

Coming from you, I take this as a compliment.

-- If I haven't said so already, sorry about not being able to make it on Saturday. Turned out being something of a weird night - I'm certain it would have been better had I not actually watched the United match, but there was never a chance of that....

When I was a substitute teacher I told some students who were griping about a math assignment that in practical terms the math was useless and would never be used in real life, but that the exercise was a useful tool in teaching them how to think. Unfortunately, the kids only latched onto the "would never be used in real life" part of what I said and pretty much began to bitch even more about the assignment.

The lesson, as always: substitute teachers are destined for abuse.

    My thoughts exactly.

I mean that as respectufully as I can.

-- I can so see Publius teaching American History.

-- And the sky's opened up. Should make for a fun evening at RFK.

-- If I was in college these days, I'd probably give a lot more thought to another line of work I considered way back when and become a college English professor. The most fun I had in HS coursework was breaking down novels in AP English.

-- If you haven't already, you all need to read All Quiet on the Western Front, Brave New World, and The Invisble Man.

-- Stay away from Heart of Darkness. Far away.

Had he been my teacher that would've provoked some lively debates in that class.

It's clearing up here just north of the city.

Too late. But we did see Apocalypse Now, so we had that going for us.

Heart of Darkness? That is probably one of the best novels in the English language. Joseph Conrad is amazing. Lord Jim is probably his best exploration of the human spirit and self-image. Good stuff.

    Sorry for the repeated PIP.
WHY??? Heart of Darkness is fantastic!
    All Quiet? Feh.
I'm with you on Brave New World, and I've never read Invisible Man.

If you really want some meat to break down, novel-wise, you can't go wrong with Dickens or Dostoevsky, and I highly recommend Gunter Grass's "The Tin Drum."

The storm has hit downtown with a vengence. I just jumped in my chair as I saw the flash of lightening and then immediately heard thunder.

Mr. Dani, I can't meet you until this passes, since you have my umbrella.

Oh MY GOD. THe rain is now falling so hard I cannot see the street anymore! I can't see anything.

And just like that, it's gone in Arlington.

-- I just couldn't get into Heart of Darkness. I just couldn't. I also despised Madame Bovary.

Somebody's throwing handsful of marbles at my window. Or shooting grapeshot from a 6-pounder, from the sounds of it. Driving home on Canal Road should be quite a treat...

Okay, I'll admit I got a little scared there for a few minutes. I'm all alone in the office, and I heard thunder and hail, I couldn't see a thing outside of my window except for this blanket of white, and then I heard something crash. I thought one of our windows was blown open.
