Hate to break it to you, but in this country when a team is not in the top division, it is in the minor leagues. That's just how it works. Just like other countries having a hundred years of history where being in a lower division just means exactly that, in the US we've got a hundred years of lower divisions equalling minor leagues.

    mi·nor
       /ˈmaɪnər/ Show Spelled[mahy-ner] Show IPA
    –adjective
    1.
lesser, as in size, extent, or importance, or being or noting the lesser of two: a minor share.
    2.
not serious, important, etc.: a minor wound; a minor role.
    3.
having low rank, status, position, etc.: a minor official.

Leagues like the AHL and MiLB are not just referred to as minor leagues, but also developmental leagues. Calling the NASL a developmental league would be an incorrect assertion, but not minor league.

Thing is, single table is one of the things that helped spell the demise of the USL D1 to start with.

The only embarrassment is that you used a BS poll to make a point. That's not a "sad state of affairs," that's just another example of your not caring how ridiculous the crap is that you use to form a conclusion.

Even so, you could probably take that poll, subtract the responses from the knee-jerk, anti-MLS blowhards like you, and get pretty close to the average drop in attendance worldwide when relegated from a first to a second division.

Don't worry, I understand that there's no chance that you can grasp that, and so will go on being the biggest "embarrassment" on BigSoccer.

Technically, you're correct. In practice, not so much. After the contraction of Miami and Tampa Bay, the remaining 10 MLS teams had three owners: AEG (6 teams), HSG (3 teams), and Robert Kraft (1 team). There were at the time, however, at least three stakeholders in MLS, LLC that did not have operational control over any specific team (Dentsu, Alan Rothenburg, and Ken Horowitz). That said, those non team-owning entities - to my knowledge - had no operational control, and were not subject to the cash calls that kept the league afloat. Additionally, they were not given stakes in SUM, LLC which was created around that time.

So, yes, I am unaware of any period of time where there were less than six stakeholders in MLS, LLC.

In reality, however, from the contraction of January, 2002 until the Chivas/Cleveland expansion announcements of November, 2003 there were functionally only three owners - two of whom controlled 90% of the league.

LOL. No common sense defense for anything here, but he still spits it out.

    Love'em.

Note - Notice how I don't explain it to him folks. It won't matter, that's why you gotta role and just enjoy the show.

Don't be such a jerk, and know your facts. The term "soccer" actually started in....ENGLAND back in the 1880's

Heard it through the grapevine that Curt Johnson is going to be named new president of the RailHawks, but that they won't be known as the RailHawks anymore. Anyone know if this is true or not?

There's good reason to expect a new President will be coming in, but I haven't heard anything about a rebrand.

It would seem odd, given that they take a lot of resources and are usually only a good idea if the old branding has become toxic or there's another name with a lot of history that it helps to recall (hence Miami FC becoming the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers), but that doesn't mean it's out of the question. Sometimes owners do that - witness what happened to the MetroStars, after all.

I hope it's not happening - I like having a quirky name - but absent a source, I see no reason to worry about it.

didn't wellman state that their would not be a name change? i understand rebranding with updated logos for minor league sports (to generate more revenue) but why rebrand the team name?

Looks like a good hire, if true.

He did say that but anything he says now carries absolutely no weight whatsoever.

Yes, according to an e-mail he sent the Cary News. But if he's out, then how much does he really know about his successors' plans?

Best info we've got says no name change. That's what I believe for the time being. But that doesn't mean it's a certainty, no matter what the Wellmans say.

I heard from a guy who knows the sister of the lady who cuts my nephew's hair, that the Railhawks will now be know as Large Intestine FC, in anticipation of RDU getting an MLS team by 2015. Their shirt-front sponsor is a leading medical supply company, hence the name. The team colors will henceforth be bile green and yellow, and the team slogan will be "Man, This Is Sick!!"

Thanks, you're a great crowd. I'll be here all week. :D
