but it should be ok in this instance as well because neither Canada nor the United States were sovereign nations at the time, as illistrated by the need of Msr. Vancouver's map making abilities. As I'm sure we all know, one of the requirements to be recognized as a nation state is a border. As such, the areas of land mass soon to be known as Canada and the United States were not countries unto themselves, and thereby allowing any manner of attrocities to be allowable re: said inhabitants. Face it, the native population really should have implemented a better immigration policy.
