They were beating us to every 50/50 ball, and though their attack was about as direct as ours was 10 years ago they were putting our back line under more pressure than we were theirs. Like I said earlier, it was like a classic USA v Mex 2-0 except that we weren't as skilled as the Mexicans in the first half, and in the 2nd half we just flat sucked.

The fresher Canadian legs probably had a LOT to do with this. Nevertheless, it is what it is, and when it's all over we'll probably wonder if Porter couldn't have managed this tournament better.

Whatever. 6-0, 0-2, still everything to do...

Yeah, great diversity tonight. Too bad none of this diversity can, y'know, play soccer.

Go start the UN on your own time.

The Caps and TFC have some great youth players in their academy ranks already. It would be better is they're domestics eventually, but if not, they'll still be good enough.

2 - 16 year old TFC academy players just signed at QPR.

If everyone wants us to become a possession team then we are going to have to suffer through massive growing pains.

You have got to be joking. Canada is 20 years behind the US and if anything the gap is widening. This was more about a lack of players released plus a ridiculous backline that included Perry Kitchen as a centerback.

That's great you deserved to win tonight but you're borderline trolling now. Montreal had only 1 Canadian starting for them vs Columbus tonight. It might help for the Canadian MLS sides to have more Canadian players.

Everyone breathe... They had a bad game. This is a very good US side that, I remind you, BEAT Mexico quite recently, and convincingly. Let's see how they bounce back vs. El Sal. I welcome a Mexico semifinal - it will be a tue test of not just whether or not this group deserves to be Olympics, but how they might fare if they make it there.

    Really.

Give me eleven Brian McBrides, eleven Eddie Popes or eleven Claudio Reynas over this group of hipsters.

Why the hell are we already giving up against Mexico? That team is beatable and their coach is terrible. You go give up. I'm not ready.

Beat El Salvador, then we'll get there.

The idea was to get into the final with least path of resistance.... MEXICO!!!

Now you have to play..... Mexico

and win to get into the Olympics.

Not gonna happen. We've been Mexico's bitch in Soccer since forever. and it doesn't matter how many immigrant africans, us citizen born in europe, or anyother kind of naturalized "American" player we can come up with. there DNA fosters a loser mentality when they put on the USA Jersey.

Why is everyone so sure we will face Mexico? I think Honduras is capable of beating Mexico.

Right now I'm seeing the usual cycle

US fans see young players, get excited, try to hype them up. Said players lay an egg in a youth tournament, players don't develop like we hope, calls for [insert coaches name here] and Sunil Gulati's heads on a platter ensue, new generation comes in. Rinse and repeat.

Exactly. We're not going to turn into freakin Barca overnight. Canada did what inferior teams can do to superior ones at times, beat them with work rate, a tight formation and pace.

It happens. Just a shitty time for it to happen.

As a Galaxy fan this reminds me of when we lost to Toronto.

Be prepared everyone, you are about to learn how awesome Canadian football is....

    True enough.

Then we can have another shot at the Mooseheads.

    But we better toughen up.

    Epic Fail...

This is the same age group that (over)confidently strode into Guatemala a couple years ago expecting the field to lay down in homage for their triumphant ride to the WYC.

Except the other teams didn't get the script in time to keep from eliminating us before the end of the movie.

Canada was better, but we were sluggish, poor, unmotivated, (did I say poor?). Porter did not have the boys prepared for the match. Today, he showed his slip at the international level. A little inexperienced and quite naive to play basically the same 11 twice in 3 days. Talent is never enough.

How many appearances does he have for Canada? Cause as best I can remember all he has done is reject call ups.

And if we're talking about players that are just born in their respective nations and have not actually represented them at a senior level, I guess its alright if I add in Subotic, Rossi, and Hangeland to the American talent pool.

Oh it hasn't filtered to the MLS teams yet. It's very much 3-4 years away. But progress is progress. Our u17 world cup team took the USA to extra time in the CONCACAF final last year. We've never done that before.

I'm quite sure Hoilett wouldn't consider Canada as his favored national team.

If it's so damned awesome, why can't they start their own league?

so you didn't see us miss from point blank 4-5 times with some crazy-ass reaction saves? That's what I call luck, but whatever it happens in football, what Im most upset about is the constant fouling of Brek and the effing ref just watching like nothing is happening, all those set peices would have coughed up a goal. Ref was freaking loser, Canda played reckless and when they realized the ref was an idiot they hacked us all game without any yellows.

I saw number 11 go studs up to footed into Mix ( at the center circle) and no yellow??? WTF?

and two legit goals disallowed.. .SMH

Whatever , time to crush El Salvador and then it's time to ******** up the Mexican's Olympics.

Canada fully deserved the win, and the Canadian fans who've posted here were not deserving of some of the comments. I didn't see any of them gloat. I'll have a few brewskis (not Coronas, natch) and I'll move on. For those saying this set us back 10 years, my response is that it's more like one step back, and then two steps forward. That's how progress happens. If we don't get to the Olympics there will be a lot of analysis of our failure, and out of that will come some positive steps for improving future qualification campaigns. One step back, two steps forward.
