    I'm asking this as someone who's basically a programming idiot:

    What makes this sort of thing happen, exactly? Rep will go to the most simple and understandable layman's explanation.

    I mean, I totally get it when my dishwasher screws up: It's got a bunch of mechanical parts that can wear out or get stuck. I totally don't get it when a bunch of 1's and 0's suddenly do something different from what those 1's and 0's were doing an hour ago.

    tambo, I'm not programming expert, but I think it's some kind of server overload, like the servers for this site can't hold past a certain capacity without malfunctioning.
