I don't think this is true at all. In Tuesday's match-up with Canada, they're the ones who are developing talent that ends up spread out all over the place. With few exceptions, our top kids tend to stay in the US pipeline, where they aren't pushed enough and end up stagnating. This stagnation phase is relevant at the U20 level and continues up to older age categories, as well. This off-season, top collegians like Mullins, Neumann, and Ibeagha all turned down pro contracts in order to stay in school for their senior years. That's not the way to develop internationally competitive talent.
What's all this static about good decision-making? I don't get it. You tuck your shirt in or you don't. What's left to decide? It it moves, kick it; if it doesn't, kick it 'til it does. Pretty simple.
I'll make a bold prediction: 3-0 USA - goals from Cuevas, Villarreal and Cropper off one of his 80 yard goal kicks that bounces over the Canuck keeper's head.
I feel like people here aren't talking enough about Lopez' suspension. As soon as he came onto the field against Haiti, the US looked like a better team, and I'm concerned that we'll lose control of the tempo without him. I don't like the idea of splitting up Stanko and O'Neill, though. They're just getting used to one another in back, and it seems like a bad idea to disrupt that. Even though neither Joya nor Trapp has looked very effective in the roles you list for them, Ramos doesn't seem to have many promising alternatives available.
Wow, I must have totally missed his yellow card in the 40th minute. I don't even remember what he did. This is a pretty big loss.
Actually you can score from a goal kick: http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/footb...eing/laws-of-the-game/law/newsid=1290877.html "A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but only against the opposing team"
It's happened (multiple times) before. That's why they made it a rule. P.S. rep to whoever can name the proper restart for such a situation.
