Hopefully it won't come to this.. but Im worried it might. Four match days remain in the qualifying (9/5, 9/9, 10/10, 10/14) meaning anything can happen. I mean Venezuela or Colombia don't scare me, but Uruguay would be a challenge. Currently, Ecuador is in 5th place. We have beaten them in the past. We've also drawn with them. So we shall see.. The Standings currently look like this: >Brazil: 27 pts >Chile:: 26 pts >Paraguay: 24 pts >Argentina: 22 pts >Ecuador: 20 pts------5th Place------ >Uruguay: 18 pts >Colombia: 17 pts
I'd hate to play them in Quito that's for sure!! don't forget thought we have. TnT and USA at home and El Salvador on the road last and Mexico who doesn't look as frightening at home anymore after our 2-1 debacle last year.
I can see us beating Colombia or Ecuador, not Uruguay. Out of the three colombia would be my choice though.
Uruguay would be my choice if it came down to it, becuase colombia has a tremendous defense and will not be easy to score on at all... And ecuador wellyou guys already know
Im going to dissect a little more. Matchday 15/Round 15 (whatever you want to call it) is slated for September 5th, the same date we have our matches. >Uruguay @ Peru- Should be a lock for Urugauay >Ecuador @ Colombia- Again, Im going with the road team. >Bolivia @ Paraguay- Lock for Paraguay >Brazil @ Argentina - Anyones guess. Brazil has only lost once in their entire qualifying cycle when they played Paraguay on the road, 0-2. Anything can happen, but I think I would predict a draw. >Venezuela @ Chile- Im gonna go out on a limb and say Chile's got this one. In terms of how these games affect us right now, they really don't. But I thought it would be interesting to take a look at whats going on down there. I guess I was bored!
Has anyone notice whos mexico been playing the last 8 months..... Ecuador, Venezuela...and now Columbia......... anyone getting the clue? http://www.diez.hn/Ediciones/2009/08/14/Ultima-Hora/Mexico-jugara-amistoso-ante-Colombia-en-Dallas
I'm half ecuadorian and would be devastated if only one of my teams had an option of making the world cup. Now let me give you some tips about these 'sudacas'. Ecuador on paper would be the weakest team out of all three you mentioned, we have old tired defenders who were beaten with speed time after time against argentina, jamaica, etc. We also have a very delicate foward situation, no two fowards we line-up seem to put the damn ball in the net. The strong point is the midfield, we have quite a few options here, we usually have double 5's in Castillo and Valencia and play with a winger on the right (guerron), Mendez is usually free to roam around freely, our midfielder have racked up 85 % percent of our goals this qualifier with powerful long shots. BOTTOM LINE IS when playing us in quito, you either bunker like brazil and run away with a point or take your chances like Argentina and lose. Colombia is very versatile team overall, they have two different options of venues, Bogota- offers the advantage of the ever so contreversial 'altura', and Medellin- offers incredible mind blowing heat, which they will make you play in at 12 or 3 pm. There players as indivuals are also versatile with most of them being able to attack and defend. Star player would be the talented Winger Zuniga. Who is fast and quick witted. Colombias weaknesses is their Goal drought, no one seems to be able to score, they dominate games but fail to finish, if you guys go to the highlights of the games they played in argentina and the one they played at home to peru you would realize that its almost like someone put a curse on this team, but don't get me wrong, like I said they can very well dominate games, and create bag full of chances. Their Midfield is full of talented players with quick feet rather than fast legs who have decent long range shots and can all very well control the tempo of the game, but their Defensive mids lack size and strength. Now their strongest point is that tight tremendous defense, they can count with countless players in the worlds best defensive league (Italy), they are a mix of speed and some size, there only slow defensive player I remember is yepez, who makes up for it with his size. BOTTOM LINE Colombia is the team with the least conceded goals (or at least the second, only to brazil), if they manage to score on you, you better pray to all your angels and virgenes. UruguayI won't lie I haven't seen too much of this team but from what I have I can tell you this. Uruguay is a very tricky team, can have horrible performances or great ones on any given day. They are the most balanced team out of all three. But unlike the other two teams they don't seem to get super powers when playing at home. They have dropped a few points at home, and just self destructed against Brazil. They count with very good fowards in forlan, abreu, suarez etc. But aren't always very effective, don't be too alarmed by the 23 goals in qualifiers. Here's a fact though, uruaguay does count with expierence in playing these wildcard games, having played them the last 2 times around for 2002 and 2006, losing the latest one but advancing in 2002.
There is a very good chance Argentina might end up with the 5th spot, but out of the 3 teams you guys are mentioning , I would take my chances with Colombia many times over, then Uruguay and at last Ecuador, the Altitude in Quito is by far their best player (even though they won't admit it) playing in that altitude is like having a Messi playing in your team the last 20 minutes. Argentina couldn't win there, Brazil was very very lucky to walk away with a draw and we were just lucky to walk away with 1 point out of there, if their forwards were a little bit smarter not even better just smarter they would be higher in the table after September 9th you will have a pretty idea of who will be the most likely to take the 5th spot.
CONMEBOL Standings as of October 9th, 2009. We still gotta keep an eye on them 1. Brazil...33 points- Qualified to WC 2. Paraguay...30 points- Qualified to WC 3. Chile...27 points 4. Ecuador...23 points 5. Argentina... 22 points 6. Uruguay...21 points 7. Venezuela...21 points 8. Colombia... 20 points
There is No way Honduras can beat Argentina in Argentina, we better hope we can get an automatic ticket to South Africa.
Depends if Maradona gets sacked. I think you guys will qualify directly tho. The Ticos will most likely make that trip to Buenos Aires since they just switched managers.
Well I guess its about time I unearth this thread.. Looks like CONMEBOL could very well be on our plates pretty soon.
Honduras could beat Argentina the way they are playing...(only if Maradona is still their coach and making great efforts to make Argentina play as bad as they possibly can).
Here's the deal. Argentina 25 Uruguay 24 Ecuador 23 Since Argentina and Uruguay face off they both can't possibly accumulate enough points to keep ecuador out (If ecuador were to win in Chile they are in 5th no matter what). However in the case of an ecuador tie or loss, the 5 place will be decided by Argen-Uruguay game.
Let Costa Rica deal with them! Now the Ticos know how it feels to get your dreams destroyed at the last minute
