I'm very impressed that a small country like Botswana managed to achieve this, and with most players playing in the country's league, no less.

Fantastic goal from Oliech in added time for victory against Guinea Bissau  Also it is nice to see Senegal with some very nice results, it seems they have a nice team this year, especially in attack with Sow, Ba, Diouf...

It will be interesting to see how gruoups I and J finish, i hope that Uganda and Niger or Sierra Leone will qualify for ACN

Congrats Niger for qualifying! South Africa and Egypt both out of that group.

wow! this is pretty shocking. Egypt (3X def. champs) as well as Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa and probably Algeria (all took part in World Cup 2010) all fail to qualify!

reminds me a bit of World Cup 2006, where 4 of 5 african WC spots went to new teams. I know that there are alot of quality sides at the same level on the continent, but you would not expect 5 of the top 7 sides to fall short of getting one of the 14 spots.

it's exciting to see new teams have success, but i'm a little disappointed that few of the traditional powers will be in the tournament. I'm looking forward to a Ghana/Ivory Coast clash in the finals

in the meantime. glad bob bradley won his first game as egypt's coach. I'ld like to see highlights but can't find them online

Heartbreak for Uganda, as i saw on a live commentary Kenyan defence cleared the ball twice from the goal line and their goalkeeper also had a great match. Also a big dissapointment for Malawi. They conceded in the 90th minute against Chad and they'll not go to the Cup of Nations.

for anyone interested in bob bradley and egypt:

Egypts 3-0 win over Niger in the final matchday of African Cup of Nations Qualification was actually coached by Egypt's olympic coach Hany Ramzy in what seems to be a mostly empty stadium in Cairo. Amoung those in attendance was Bob Bradley, who was not involved on the side lines; instead taking a spectators role today.

translation of the article about the game from the egypt fa's website, you can spot bradley on the 6th picture down:

the first goal, no sign of bradley:

This is the Africa forum not the US forum if you want to talk about Bradley kindly take it over there. If you want to talk about Egypt well then fine.

    From another thread:

I'm amazed at this. How is it that no one in the organization knew?

Ummm... isn't he coach of Egypt? So, is this forum for the discussion of players and coaches from the continent of Africa only?

Guess we can only discuss the coaches of about 24 of the 53 member nations here then.

2012 ACN should be a great tournament with a lot of supposedly minnows. Some of the qualifying rules has been a disaster for the fans as we didn't know how CAF set them up.

They were posted on their website and in all documentation. And the same rule that was used that kept South Africa from advancing has been used before. I went to wiki and looked at past tournaments to check, so it's not even like this is a new rule. Plus, the rule is commonly used throughout the world in other tournaments and competitions.

Gabon can't get the lights working in the stadium that is set to host the final and they can't start their game against Brazil. Pitch isn't exactly great either.
