Morrow could if he performs like I think he should. Gatt technically can play RB if need be. Had Beitashour not got hurt I think he would've been a candidate

Well remember, he didn't run the first 2 camps as he was focusing on Akron. But the final 2 games of the U-23 team he did make a few questionable player decisions. We were missing a few players that would have helped (Agudelo, Morales were both huge for us against Mexico), and some of the guys picked were in terrible form.

The sarcasm was intended, in all honesty. I guess I didn't add the smiley where it was required.
    Oh well, next time.

I actually believe Klinsmann had final say on player selection. I thought he did an inferior job.

I believe the whole point of the camp is to teach Americans how a team changes formations quickly to gain tactical advantage. Recall that JK had Jones playing wing recently - mid game.

I keep hearing on this forum that Porter made some bad decisions regarding the U23s. This really scares me as he is now the coach for the Portland Timbers. They have had a hard time with recent coaches, I was hoping Porter would get them on the right track. Not so sure now.

    What conclusion. I said "believe".

Maybe somebody out there who knows this stuff can confirm that Klinsmann picked Porter and the u23's were picked by the two of them - in reality, since Porter was working for JK and the US Nat team project, whose goal is to win the World Cup in Brazil with the U23's of 2012 who would be U25's in 2014.

Let me put it another way. Porter picked Boyd because.....?

I don't think that's true but enough of the U23s and back to tonight's game.

Don't believe everything you read here and don't be scared, I'm sure Porter will do fine in Portland. Unless he's in way over his head, as seems likely.

Way too soon to be scared.

The U23s had some serious defensive talent flaws all along the back line that would have challenged any coach, and then losing Agudelo and Morales for the key games was an additional blow outside his control. In his short time as coach, he wasn't able to figure out how to fix or cover those problems. Porter obviously isn't blameless for the U23 failure. But he has a solid record as a coach overall, and with more time and the ability to sign new players to fix holes his Timbers have, he may turn out just fine. I'd be patient.
