I hope you don't mind me posting this (if you do, i can delete it). I am a volunteer with Camden Youth Soccer Club, and help to coach 4-14 year old kids in the area. It is very affordable, and the summer season starts soon. We are looking to get more volunteers (coaching, registering people and help run the club) - and of course more kids. (all abillities more than welcome). the website is here:- http://www.cysc.us/ Feel free to browse, and obviously to come along and volunteer/sign up your kids. Last thing - See you all on the 10th - Go Union.
Bump this up - season starts later on this month, last year we had Shea Salinas come out to sign autographs and other things - won't be able to this year due to players well playing, but we still need help from regular joes like myself, and everyone here. If you fancy doing some "good" then get in touch if you need more info. It is DOOPER to help out at CYSC
I would be available to help out wherever I can. Do the kids have to be from Camden? I know someone who has a son who turns 4 in a couple of weeks (March 25) and they have been dying to get them into a soccer league. I bought him a Union shirt for Christmas. He's a Jr. Dooper!
The kids, as far as i know, don't "have" to be from Camden, although i can certainly check if that's the case (i've heard of people coming from other areas in the past). However, it isn't a league, but just kids starting to play from 4-6, getting used to the ball at their feet and such like, then we do coaching after that age. The kids unfortunately can't be relied to turn up on time, or at all, so we can't really organise games - and at 4 years old, it isn't a good idea anyway (although they do get to play a "game" at the end of the session until they get bored at that age) If your friend is interested (and realises that they will be bringing their son into "bad camden") then it is $30 a season, which includes full strip. We also have (or at least had) a selection of boots if he needs those. For you, if you want to help out and can - we are starting to set up the park (i.e mark lines, blow up the balls, make sure everything is still there) on the 19th of March, usually at around 9.30-12. (home in plenty of time to doop). Thanks for the interest at least.
I think we'll be OK with hanging out in Camden for a few hours. This would be a great stepping stone to get him interested in playing. I won't be able to make it out on the 19th. I'm doing a 50-story stair climb in Philly that morning. However, I would like to help out where I can. I can come out on March 26. How often are the sessions?
Good luck with your stair climb. The 26th is fine too. We have 2 "seasons" that coincide with the school term. This season, the 19th/26th is setting up the pitches and on the 26th we are starting registrations for kids. The week after is week 1 of "coaching", and other dates to know is that we have a break for Easter, a break for memorial day (or labor day, whichever is in may/june), the season "ends" on June 11th where all the kids get a medal, and on the 16th of April we are having a "Celebration of soccer" where the state of NJ is organising it, and they have lots of food, t-shirts and other giveaways, as well as the coaching too. We usually stop during the summer as it gets too hot for the kids to play, and hten start again in August - with a break for Labor day, before ending the week before thanksgiving.
I'll probably know because you will likely be the only "new" person I'll probably have my union hat on - so you'll know who i am.
Bump this up to the top..... Since the last time i posted on this thread, we have started to invade the blogosphere (thanks to those blogging about us) - so there will hopefully be more SOB's around than just you, so i may not be able to "know who you are". DOOP.
I stand out in a crowd. I'll most likely be the only 6'5" 300 pound dude with hair going down his back kicking a soccer ball. hahaha! See ya on Saturday!
Just to make sure you realise - the Union game kicks off at 4, so depending how you are going to get there (if you are going) - it might be tight for you.
I'll definitely be at the game. Got my season ticket card last week. Got my parking passes yesterday. I am gonna miss the pre-game festivities though. I probably won't get to the stadium until 3-3:30.
Same here. Don't worry - i will be making sure we don't end up getting held up (there is also another ST holder that comes and helps us out). We actually got a boost last week as all the lines from the previous season were still pretty much visible, so all we had to do was to find the corners. That is going to make this week far easier. We even managed to make penantly boxes and half way circles for the big pitch this year
Bumpity bump bump bump. Was nice to meet a fellow DOOPer last week, and hope we get more in the coming weeks. (cough - no union game this week - cough). Anyway, i got the CYSC committee on a good one today, saying our parks had been completely ruined by bikes and off-road vehicles, and that we may not even be able to have it ready by April 16th (which is in 15 days time). It seems i was too "clever" with that April Fools. For those that didn't know, we got our fields set up pretty much as nice as we have ever at this point from last week. WE still need a lot of help all through the year though - as we are hoping for a bumper year. (well at least bumper in terms of the numbers we have had since we moved to "bad camden".). Lets all bring Doop to the Camden area, camden area, camden area.
Weekly bump of this thread - anyone interested i coming along to help out, give me a shout. With no Union game at all, this could be a way to get your Soccer fix... of course, with the Rain again casting a shadow of doubt over us getting to run it tomorrow (and again next week - will it ever stop?) - then you may definitely want to get in touch on Saturday morning too.
I don't think drainage will be a problem this week, but the rain might be. WE managed to escape ok last week, so who knows.
What better way to start the weekend than being out in the sun, helping youngsters enjoy the beautiful game, and being in Camden? (ok last part wasn't quite true, but oh well). I know, i know, Tailgate blah blah blah. Still a guys gotta try doesn't he?
Hi folks - your weekly bump of this thread (which you probably won't read anyway). Well - CYSC has taken over the bloggosphere with great work from people like modern hypocrites - and has now started it's rise among local newspapers with a great article that appeared in the Courier Post. Thanks to all involved in doing these things (and some i haven't mentioned contribute). Also - since we have a game tomorrow - Everyone is free on Saturday morning to come out to help us at Pyne Poynt Park. This time- no tailgate as an excuse Hope to see many of you there. (i know i know, late night, hungover, it is in camden - blah blah blah )
I'll be back on Saturday! I was out 2 weeks ago because I had to attend a regional meeting for my fraternity. Then last week I was in a wedding. See ya on Saturday
Bump this up (remembered this week) - i wasn't there last week as i was out of town, but with the 8pm start - there's no better way to get ready for DOOPING than helping out at Pyne Poynt Park.... (as long as the weather is kind enough to not flood it)
A weekly bump - but just to say you can't come this week, as we have a week off for Memorial day weekend. Thank god - since it would mean i have to watch the game on DVR otherwise.... Next week is the 2nd last week for those interested in coming along to help. As Shenanigans can tell you - it is great fun.
Bumpity We have extended the season due to early season rain outs, so now ending on June 18th. Hope to see some there to help out
