Your cousin had a great weekend, Falvo.

IMO, this is the part of the season where Cal shows what they learned from last year's meltdown.

They were off to a great start last year, too, so hopefully they'll be able to show more consistency from here out than a year ago.

If they do, I think they can be a threat to make it to the College Cup. They have enough talent.

Hey thanks for your acknowledgment! Kevin Grimes seems to know his stuff so far. They've only lost to St Mary's and no one really knows what happed there. They are unbeaten so far anyway in conference play.

On another note, isn't it interesting how this certian poster below (former player or rather players dad) never posted anymore?

Hey soccerbro1, you really must be an avid follower of Cal soccer. Please try and post some more. Thanks

    On another note...

    TAKE NOTE!

No. 19 California has opened the Pac-10 season with three impressive wins on the road, piling up 12 goals in victories at Stanford, Oregon State and Washington.

On Sunday, freshman (really a sophomore) Tony Salciccia scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in a 4-1 victory at Washington that extending the Golden Bears’ unbeaten streak to seven games.

Chris Brown tweet about this video

9 goals and a Chris Brown video all in one weekend. Most teams would like a weekend like that. Hate to say it but Cal destroyed us in the Pacific Northwest this past weekend. Props for the video.

I think David Bingham is the big story on this team this year.

He's 13th in the country in GAA (0.58), third in save percentage (.899), 7th in saves per game (5.71) and third in total saves (80).

Bingham is the only GK in the country among the leaders in all those categories. The only one.

All the other GKs who are among the leaders in GAA and save percentage haven't faced very many shots and thus aren't among the leaders in saves.

Conversely, none of the other leaders in saves and saves per game have anything close to the numbers Bingham has in GAA and save percentage.

Barring a meltdown the last few weeks of the regular season, he should be first team All America.

He is a great GK. He trained in Italy with Cagliari. He deserves to be in the MLS soon....

BTW, how good a GK coach is Cal's Henry Foulk?

Assuming Bingham makes it to MLS (or Europe), with the exception of 2003, every starter they've had at GK will play in MLS. Josh Saunders (01-02), Erik Kronburg (04-05), Stefan Frei (06-08) and Bingham (09-present) have been the Cal starters. Only Mike Ogsuera in 2003 (who started as a redshirt freshmam then got beaten out by Kronburg and Frei the rest of the way) didn't go on to MLS.

It's not quite UCLA's history of GK success, but in recent years, it's better. Here's a link to Foulk's bio. I wonder if they're having the GK success they are because he's adept at turning average talent into pro-caliber GKs or if good GKs are seeking out Cal because they want to be trained by him.

Must be disheartening when a total of just over 500 fans show up for both games.

Its sad in a way because they are a great college team but soccer fans everywhere in the country are few and far between. Most Bay Area's sports fans can only do and/or watch so much on weekends. I mean you had the entire city San Francisco right across the bridge partying all day long getting ready for the SF GIANTS in the World Series (something that happens once in a lifetime) and then you had the Oakland Raiders playing a home game down the road, the 49ers playing in the London Bowl finishing around 1PM.....there is only so much people can care about....

While all this is true, it's also a campus pushing 36,000 in enrollment. They should be able to get more than 250 or so to key games against long-standing conference rivals.

Hard to believe a campus that big, with a team like that, and weather like that in a community that supports soccer (youth to pros) like that can't draw better.

And for a program that was just on the abyss of elimination, you think they'd be marketing the hell out of themselves to try and get bigger crowds.

You ever been to Berkeley? Although their sports programs are pretty good, (even though they never win much and are cutting baseball this year) it seems that the whole town and/or campus cares about everything else other than sports. If you have a protest going, a xmas homeless food drive for the poor, an Obama or Clinton rally or anything protesting the war in Iraq, Afaghanistan and even Vietnam (somethings never change), I guarantee you will have a packed house.....

You could say that it isn't just Berkeley, since UCLA's home attendances are pretty crappy, too.

Still, I tend to agree with Sandon. For as great a job as Cal's coaches have done, they need to start building up a fanbase. They're not going to draw thousands of fans overnight, but surely they can top 500?

They finish their home schedule with Stanford on Veterans' Day. For that one it shouldn't be hard to bring out some support.

Plenty of teams get 1,000 fans per game, which may not sound like much, but it sure beats 300.
