Nice little interview with coach Grimes and discussion about the teams trip to Italy. Pro Prospects: Cal Men meet Italian Pros
Here are the scores of Cal's Italy tour against the primavera (U-20) sides. They lost 4-1 against Roma, beat Siena 5-2, tied Fiorentina 0-0, tied Atalanta 2-2 and beat Novara 3-1...
What a fantastic experience for the Cal players and coaches alike this trip must have been for the Golden Bears squad and it sure sounds as if they more than held their own against their Italian counterparts going by the scores.
Quakes confident Bingham can fill in just fine for Busch http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/07/02/quakes-confident-bingham-can-fill-just-fine-busch
Wow, I had thought former Cal Bears player Andrew Wiedeman had played and started in a lot more MLS matches. I can't believe that in 2 & 1/2 seasons he has just completed his first start. Not sure how long these Generation Adidas contracts last but he is now in his 3rd year of his contract and is making $100k a year which = $300k for dropping out of school for his senior year. Not a bad deal considering he just got his first start in 3 years.....
CAL down in LA training andscrimmaging this weekend getting ready for the season. First game in two weeks at SCU! 08/24/12 at Santa Clara Santa Clara, Calif. 7:00 p.m. PT
Were you at the game? How did they look? I expect them to be pretty good this year. Wish at least one of their games out east this weekend were televised or streaming so I could see what they look like against quality ACC competition. Hope the do well.
Yeah I was there and they looked good. GK Kevin Peach although he seemed out of position or off his line on the goal had a great game. He is so tall which makes his presence command the entire box. Tony Salciccia had a great game also converting the pk but Kyle Lunt earned it as he was brought down the the box. Tony read the game perfectly and easily converted the ensuing winning pk. Defense also held their own during Steve Birnbaum's absence.
Tough loss against Maryland. UCLA was able to eek out a 2-2 tie against them. Doesn't bode well for us. Do any of you guys have the Pac12 network? Are they airing the Cal soccer games?
Cal's game this Friday will be on the Pac-12 network. I may try to go, if I can manage to get away Friday afternoon. Some other games will be on as well. If you go to the team website, the schedule lists which games will be on tv and what network (I think all are on Pac-12 network).
Yeah they should have beaten Virginia but got beat badly by Maryland. I'm sure the traveling and the 90 degree heat in the pouring rain did nothing to help matters. I know its the same for both teams but California boys will never get used to that type of humidity and weather. Cool network. Eric Wynalda is calling the game!
