So ... "unofficially" Cal comes to Cal Poly for an exhibition game Aug. 13 this fall. Probably the first game for both teams.
Who is the heir-apparent to the Cal goalkeeping legacy that has sent 4 of its last 5 starters to MLS, dating back to Josh Saunders in 2001?
Davis Paul appeared in only 1 game so this MLS season for the Chicago Fire on April 17 against Los Angeles Galaxy. He has not played since. Robby Gogatz is 6-0 ft tall 170 poinds and is a Junior GK from SO Murrieta, Calif. (Murrieta Valley HS). He is the projected starter but I don't know much about him. I'll try and find out more..... http://www.calbears.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/gogatz_robby00.html

Bingham Goal I guess that goal alone was worth foregoing his senior year at CAL and signing the $100k gen addidas contract. To do it against an EPL team is phenomenal! Just heard Cal played at Cal Poly Slo and final score was 5-0 but don't know who scored. Supposedly, 15 minutes into the 2nd half all the starters were pulled. I'll try and find out more later...
I really wanted to go down for this game as two of my cousins were on opposite sides but I couldn't get away. Thank you very much for the link!

Cal has announced that its only senior (captain Ted Jones) will redshirt. http://www.calbears.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/082211aaa.html He would've been extremely useful this year, but now their 2012 team looks loaded.
Yeah I think he is taking a year off and trying to concentrate on completing his degree. I know it was touched upon in the UCSB thread, I thought it merited a metion here also considering the game and the incidents took place at and against CAL. Was at the USF game earlier, #22 Christian Dean really impressed me tonight. Kid is the real deal. Very mature, both mentally and physically for an 18yo.

I was at the CAL game yesterday and Cal looked good. They went up 1-0 as Kyle Lunt opened the scoring. Sam Brooks of Kentucky then leveled the score on a corner by Charles Pettys. Then the ref awarded Kentucky a penalty kick which was questionable as the UK player went down pretty easily and then CAL GK Robby Gogatz saved the ensuing pk. Tyler Riggs then put UK ahead 2-1 in the 59th minute. Cal came from behind in the 61st minute John Fitzpatrick, then went up for good in the 71st when Kyle Marsh on a 19 yard cross from Seth Casiple's 2nd assist. All in all it was good game for Cal who honored their freshman class with a dinner after the game. It seems even with the 4-1 loss to UConn last week, they've pretty much made up for that loss with this tournament and haven't really missed a beat. Thanks for the update. I haven't had a chance to see them play yet. Hope to do so on Friday. With UCLA flailing, they seem like the frontrunner in the Pac-12 right now. That could all change of course, but promising start. Good to see they bounced back from the UConn loss. Sometimes an old fashioned spanking early can help a team sort out its weaknesses and figure out how to fix them in time for when the games really matter.

Fun Article Falvo - thanks for sharing Hey I am curious, it appears every Cal player is majoring in Social Welfare. Whose picking the majors for these players, the coaching staff or the kids themselves? Seems to be a disproportionate number in this particular major given the number of options available to the Cal student for it to be any coincidence.
