http://ee.dispatch.com/Repository/getimage.dll?path=TCD/2009/09/11/19/Img/Ad0190882.gif There's a link to the ad, but it's not a good photo. The new lineup is "coming in October." Everything in my post from "Channels 2-75" to "thing as now.)" is based on a phone call I had with TW Customer Service. I'd imagine that there may be more info at www.twcol.com or even http://www.timewarnercable.com/MidOhio/support/policies/channelchange.html as we get closer to the date. ----------- You might be able to click here or: Go to http://ee.dispatch.com then Click on "metro and state" on the left, then Click "next" twice Then click the ad Everything from the dotted line down might be subscription-based though.
This may suck. ESPN and ESPNHD will be on three channels now (31, new digital spot, ESPNHD.) If someone searches for a show by theme or title, they could get up to three different results, depending on how many times the channel is listed. TW REALLY needs the ability to ignore channels from the guide. AT&T has this, i'd imagine other providers as well, and it's one hell of a feature. I can search for anything I want and I don't have to worry about getting results for channels that I don't subscribe to.
Watched NFL games yesterday on the Red Zone Channel...it is awesome. I have U-Verse, so this channel is part of the HD Gold (or Premium) package, which is $5 per month extra. This is a great deal, especially for those who don't like either the Brown or Bengals. The best way to describe this station is like having Sunday Ticket, except you don't control the remote. They did a good job of jumping from game to game to catch most of the scores live. As the games started to come to the end, they focused more on close games and just showed replays of scoring playes in the blowouts. There are no commercials on the channel, so finding time or a bio or snack break can be a little tough. I have had Sunday Ticket in the past. If I could subscribe to the Sunday Ticket Package for $350 or Red Zone Channel for $30, I think I would just stick with the Red Zone based on how it worked in Week 1. Don't know if any of the other providers offer this channel.
If you want to see what the T-W lineups, channel guide, will look like, go here and enter 45202 {downtown cinci} Obviously this is local specific but the 'national/ohio-wide channels' should be the same. Takes some getting used to but in time this will make finding programs easier. For a short time T-W experimented with {javascript?} banner when you selected a SD channel and it was available in HD, if you clicked 'sel/ok' it went to the HD channel instead. Another short T-W experiment... when I clicked on USA Network in the analog band, it gave me the Digital transmission instead. Still listed as channel 33 {my lineup #}. Guess that would have been too confusing, though. How could I tell? Set the TV direct cable input to 33 as well and switched input source. Noticeable difference. I'd like to see a pref setup where if you didnt subscribe to a channel it flashed a quick banner instead of polling the TW database. Who cares about adding it... just reset the box when you add channels to get em set up.. Have to do that often enough, anyway.
Here's an article: http://www.multichannel.com/article...ption_From_NFL_Network_Lineup.php?rssid=20077 This makes WOW look crummier by the moment. I haven't checked in a while, but they used to black out live NFL games. At least TW has FSC.
Interesting--this looks a lot like the Bundesliga coverage I used to get on Pro7Sat1 through Dish Network--they have what they call the "Konferenz" which just goes back and forth to all the games being played with replays of all the goals during that day's matches.
Just a reminder that AT&T is offering the following, as long as you call in: 1 free month of Sports Pack (Includes Gol TV, FSE, and a lot of regional networks - blackouts apply) 1 free month of Movie Pack (Includes every movie channel except HBO and Cinemax... Includes HD channels if you subscribe to the HD programming) 2 free months of HBO (This one ends on Saturday. You can also upgrade to HBO and Cinemax. You'd still end up paying something, but there is a discount.) I think there's an offer of 1 free month HD programming. Starting on Saturday is a free preview of international programming. I think most of this stuff is up in the 3000 range, but rumor is that it also includes Setanta which I think is channel 657. If you already subscribe to any of these, try calling in and seeing what they can give you. You might be able to cancel and take the free month, but when you re-subscribe, you may have to pay a higher price if you're already locked in to an older price. Call (866) 465-1496 for more info.
I think Gol TV, FSE and ESPN Deportes also are in the 3000 channel range on AT&T. You may have to flip the SAP in order to get English commentary on Gol TV and FSE. AFAIK, ESPN Deportes does not offer English SAP. These channels may or may not be in the free preview, but I still plan on checking it out. And here's more information regarding the upcoming TW changes which should happen "in the vicinity of" October 20th: http://www.timewarnercable.com/MidOhio/support/policies/channelchange.html
This is true. If you don't see live Setanta and FSE programming (among others), re-set your box. In addition, RAI is channel 3802 and is active (Serie A.) ESPN Deportes is 3302 and now showing FC Nurmemberg vs Bayern Munich. From what i've heard, the Setanta part of the free preview also applies to DirecTV. And AT&T people might be interested in the following numbers. I have no idea if any replacement fees exist. There is no way to transfer shows to other DVRs, so be advised: Code: Hard Drive Capacity SD Storage Capacity HD Storage Capacity Moto VIP1216 160GB 133 Hours 37 Hours Cisco IPN430 160GB 133 Hours 37 Hours LARGER HARD DRIVE DVR BOX Moto VIP1225 250GB 233 Hours 65 Hours Cisco IPN4320 320GB 311 Hours 87 Hours
One thing I don't like about AT&T is how they do 3:30 PM regional coverage. Nebraska and Virgina Tech are on ESPN2. Arizona and Iowa are on ABC. However on AT&T, Nebraska and VT are on ESPN2 Alternate 1 and Arizona and Iowa are on ABC HD. I wonder if Time Warner and the other providers get Nebraska and VT on ESPN2 HD. And they can't even put Nebraska and VT on their AT&T Alternate channels (1690 range.) Those are apparently "reserved" for Big Ten games.
http://utalk.att.com/utalk/board/message?board.id=Uverse_TV_Programming&thread.id=40395 FYI, the Sports Package includes Gol TV and about [sarcasm]15 different RSNs full of poker, coaches shows, and blackouts.[/sarcasm]
Regarding the NFL RedZone preview, I believe it will also be free on Comcast, Dish Network, Verizon FiOS, and a bunch of systems i've never heard of.
Krypto - You seem to be in the know about all sorts of television shit. What's the latest on adding more than 2 HD streams for AT&T UVerse in Columbus? Have you heard anything further on this?
The whole kahuna: I think such things are in the testing phase out in California or so, however they can't just offer it. Apparently, they have to do a ton of "behind the scenes" stuff. Most people now are on a 2HD/2SD profile. From what i've heard, this new profile would be a 3HD/1SD, and as is the case with the current 2/2, only if you live close enough to the VRAD, which looks something like this. This should be out sometime Q1 2010. AT&T is absolutely deplorable when it comes to PR releases. Most people just turn their TV on one day and find a new channel or new feature, then post it on one of the various tech/tv sites. A few days after it launches and is known about, AT&T releases an announcement on it. Suppose AT&T adds another VRAD that happens to be closer to your location. I have heard that it really isn't easy to get switched over, but it may be possible. The quality of the copper wire leading into your house also plays a role. Right now, the "magic limit" is about 3000 feet of wire (not "as the crow flies" but rather total feet of wire.) Once VDSL2 comes out, this limit is rumored to go up to about 5000 feet. The further you are away from the VRAD, the worse your connection probably will be. I do believe that these "streams" only apply to live TV. Apparently, you can go outside of the current 2/2 if you are watching previously recorded TV, no matter what TV you are watching recorded TV on. Here's an example from AT&T. I only have two boxes, one of which is a mostly full DVR, so I really can't test the limits. Of course, if you are watching CBS-HD (or whatever HD channel) on two different TVs, this only counts as one live HD stream. If you are watching CBS-HD and CBS-SD on two different TVs, this counts as two streams. Speaking of AT&T, they still don't have any of the PPV sports packages (Center Ice, Direct Kick, etc.) other than ESPN's NCAA GamePlan and whatever the basketball version is...at least I'd assume they have the basketball version. However, since last winter, AT&T has added the NHL Network in both SD and HD. I want to say it was Verizon FiOS that added NHL Network and then added Center Ice later on. Some U-Verse users are taking this optimistically.
I'd either go with DirecTV or AT&T. Both are great when it comes to HD selection and overall features. DirecTV is great when it comes to soccer (Every UEFA CL match including one screen that shows every game at once.) They also have GolTV. AT&T's internet service has ESPN360.com as well. Every game of the U-20 World Cup, MLS, US Soccer, La Liga, Eredivisie, Serie A, Bundesliga, Portuguese Liga, and more. If you don't like ESPN's ticker, ESPN360 doesn't have one. (However, their halftime programming can be quite different from the halftime programming on ESPN or ESPN2.) Both providers have Setanta, but only DirecTV has Setanta Xtra. Actually, DirecTV with Setanta and the Sports Pack combined with AT&T internet would be even better for the serious CL fans.
866-757-9808 That is AT&T's tier 2 tech support number. I've never used it, but I just came across a snippet of info where you can call it, press option two for "field tech in need of support." You may be able to then choose option 3, then try to say you were transferred over.
Anyone know if U-Verse is going to show the Bengals-Texans game this coming Sunday on one of the alt channels? Channel 10 is showing the Browns-Steelers. I get alt ESPN games but don't want to wait til 1 if I have to go to a sports bar
Negative. The NFL games that aren't televised on "regular CBS or Fox" are on the Sunday Ticket package, just as the same as with any other provider. Unfortunately, DirecTV is the only provider with the NFL Sunday Ticket. I think the alternate channels are just for the Big Ten Network overflow games (subscription to HD service not required) as well as any FSN overflow games (blackout restrictions apply to FSN games.) U-Verse does have the NFL RedZone on their HD Premium Tier ($5 on top of the $10 HD fee), but they'll just show what they consider "exciting action" in the Bengals-Texans game, including every score. Speaking of the HD Premium Tier, on Monday, November 16th, HDNet and HDNet Movies will be moving to this tier. I'm really not surprised, as those channels are usually on other providers premium HD tiers. (Except if you're TW, then they were removed a few months ago.) This information is according to a postcard I received from AT&T today. Off the top of my head, AT&T's HD premium tier includes MGM-HD, Universal-HD, NFL RedZone HD, Palladia HD, and Smithsonian HD. Honestly, HDNet has fallen from what it once was (live NHL and MLS), but their Sunday concerts can still be good.
Not sure if this is elsewhere, I didnt see it, but it looks like Time Warner is running the NHL Center Ice for free for a little while, along with that Direct Kick was coming in last night for free too. All Standard Def sadly I'm not sure which feed is worse between that and ONN.
Yeah, the sports previews are usually run for a week or so at the beginning of the season and then again during the middle of the season. The cable companies don't generally have enough space on their systems to give each league a dedicated bunch of channels, so they'll make MLB share with NHL and MLS shares with NBA. They don't advertise this channel-sharing, but if you know when and where to watch, you can mooch off the other league. They'll also say that "such and such league preview ends on whatever date", but many times, someone forgets to turn the previews off. (Obviously, the satellite providers have more than enough space to run these games on their own channels, including in HD. This bandwidth issue to an interesting situation a few years ago when Euro 2000 was on PPV. The cable providers ran it on their regular PPV channels, whereas DirecTV launched two channels totally exclusive to Euro 2000 matches. When one of the games went past the scheduled end time, DirecTV viewers got to see it while cable viewers were stuck with the next program, which they probably didn't order.) I don't know why you were getting NHL and MLS, unless things changed somehow. Usually, like I said, it's MLB/NHL and MLS/NBA. Here was a basic map from a year or so ago, just to give you an idea: 1-10 MLB/NHL 11-14(maybe 15) MLB only 1-5 NBA 6-9 NBA/MLS Obviously, when they turn the NBA preview on at the start of the season, MLS games (if any were scheduled) would come in. At the start of the NHL season, you'd get a few MLB games (if any were scheduled.) And so on and so forth. http://www.timewarnercable.com/midohio/learn/new_digital_lineup.html There's TW's new lineup which should be landing sometime this week. IIRC, it does include space for these games in HD.
Had U-verse since July and while I'm generally happy with the service, there is one aspect of it that bothers me. I've referred to it it before, but it remains an annoyance, and at times more so. The audio set-up on U-verse just isn't adequate, not in this day and age. The whole "the box can't handle HDMI" to the picture and audio being out of sync, to the audio level just dropping out of certain programming (especially certain music programs I run through my stereo) which makes them essentially unwatchable, it's just not good enough. I swapped out the HDMI for composite cable; that more-or-less fixed the syncing problem (though it still seems to be slightly off on occasion, at least on some channels), but doesn't help with the audio dropping out. But here's the deal: I don't have time to sink into researching what might be wrong with U-verse's audio set-up or the hardware in its boxes. I'll live with it for now, and there are parts of the system I really, really like, but at some point they're going to have to correct these problems. Plural, because there are others I know of that I don't experience because, currently, I don't have an HD set-up; a friend, for example, tells me that when someone's watching HD programming it can really bog down his Internet access. He, too, ran into the HDMI, non-syncing audio problems. Like I said, I like U-verse in many ways - love the way all aspects of the system "talk" to each other, the Internet/iPhone access, the Total Home DVR - but it does seem as though the technology still has quite a few bugs in it. Bugs that, as a customer, tend to piss me off. That can only go on for so long. I'll let it go for now, assume and expect that their tech support is working on this stuff, and will call them a few months from now. If at that time they have some clear answers for me, great. If not, I'll start looking for a new option. The goal is to move into a new house within a year. I'll experiment until then. But want to be set on a system that'll work for me, long-term, by the time I make that move.
Yay! I checked my U-Verse guide, and guess what I see? Champions League on FSN in HD! Happy Happy Joy Joy!
well, TW started rolling out their channel lineup change in cbus. mine was changed this morning. when I went to set the DVR for champions league, got a little worried when i couldn't find FSC initially.
Channel 318 I think on the new list I saw. On a side note, those of us paying $6.95 for the Gold HD channel getting Smithsonian, MAV, MGM, and Universal are getting screwed. Gotta reprogram the remote. Also, haven't seen it yet, but I would be that if you have the DVR recording a series on a specific channel, you may have to update the series.
