Missed the Italy Croatia game today due to the U-Verse outage. They're giving me 3 months free of HBO and Cinemax.
I have Insight and almost never have a problem; my son has TWC and absolutely hates it. It does not bode well for those of us whose cable is relatively pain free with TWC buying out Insight.
ok....so I've had DirecTV for the past two years, and for the most part really enjoyed it. I was not a terribly happy Insight customer prior to DirecTV, but I wasn't extremely unhappy either. My main reason for leaving was price. Insight stopped at my door today and offered me what I think is an unbelievable deal. I have to find out a few things first. How does their whole home DVR work? Does anyone know if Insight has Direct Kick? Other than that, I think I'm ready to change. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the matter. Thx.
Anyone else on TW have a possessed DVR? My DVR is recording shows that I have not told it to record and it's also clearing out shows that I didn't tell it to delete. I checked the settings/recording rules and they are fine. I called TW and the guy said that I should try to restart my cable box so I knew he was not going to be much help. I was going to turn it in to get a new box but i don't want to have to go back in and rerecord all the shows I have set up on it.
When this happens with U-Verse, it sounds like a failing DVR. If the classic "unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug back in" trick doesn't work, you may want to just swap it. Maybe they have a "disaster recovery" that doesn't lose recordings.
Anyone besides me try UltraTV from WOW? The wife and I have been moderately pleased with the service, which is usually a plus nowadays.
AT&T has added some new channels in advance of the Olympics: 1636 - Olympic 3D channel 1637 - Olympic Basketball HD 1638 - Olympic Soccer HD 1639 - Olympic TV App (Repeated on several different channels)
http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2012/07/25/story-onn-ceases-operations.html On August 31st, ONN signs off the air forever. (Sarcasm: Does this mean Crew games on FSOhio will have the worst picture quality?)
My contract with TW is up in September and they are raising my rates $10 a month. This made me want to shop around so I called Uverse on Saturday to see what they offered. I thought it was kinda strange that the guy on the phone was not offering what I was looking at online. I was looking at the u200 plan and the lowest internet plan and the guy was telling me that it was going to be $113 a month (with HBO) and a $50 install fee. I thought this seemed like an awful deal since what I was looking online was the u450 package for only $13 more a month that had every movie channel and the sports package and the same internet. Anyone think this sounds strange? My TW service is not all that bad but since all I watch is HD I figured that I would look into ATT since they have a lot more HD channels. One thing that I like about TW is that they have a lot of OnDemand and I couldn't find out much about Uverse and their OnDemand. Do they even have this function other than the random kids shows that you have to pay extra to get?
U-Verse does have on demand but not MLS Direct Kick. They gave me 3 free months of HBO/Cinemax/Showtime to make up for an outage. I used it to watch seasons of Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Lies, and the Borgias.
Just because a "contract" is up, doesn't mean the rates have to go up. If you mention switching, most companies can give special deals, especially through the retention department. Just out of curiosity, was it a true contract where they'd charge you for canceling early, or was it a "promotional rate for a set amount of time" situation? Here's a good comparison chart for HD channels: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1058081/o...-lineups-cable-dbs-fiber-iptv-updated-5-26-12 AT&T does have HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore, and Showtime all in HD on Demand. In addition, they have TMC and Flix. If you get the U-300 or U-450 package, you can get Movieplex On Demand. A lot of people say their "regular" on demand such as History, Comedy Central, BTN, etc is lacking when compared to the other providers. However, I've learned to take this with a grain of salt because a lot of these "people" could be plants from Comcast, DirecTV, or whatever. (They're insistent that "Xfinity" has the most On Demand "choices", but we all know that many of these "choices" are 2-3 minute tutorials and stuff that 99% of people would never watch.) Each TV must have a box, unlike a traditional cable company. With the U-300 and up, I believe they'll give you the second STB for no extra fee. (Oddly, my second STB has no additional fee, but I'm only 200.) If you want the U-200, HBO, and HD, you might be better off with the U-450, depending on what you want. The U-450 includes your HD fee, HBO, Cinemax, U-300 (includes movie pack in there), plus the sports pack which wil get you GolTV in English and FOX Deportes. Of course, if you get the U-200, you can continually get discounted rates which may include HBO and Cinemax, HD, etc. I've had the U-200 and 12.0Mbps internet and usually don't pay much over $100 per month.
Quite true. You'd have to sign up for MatchDay Live or get a Roku, or something similar. As I said above, they're great about discounted/promo rates. Really, the only things I wish they'd fix: 1) Pixellation during high-speed movement. It's not horrendous, but it's annoying. 2) More streams. The 4 HD for the house, 3 of which can go to the DVR is enough for now, but I can see a family with 2-3 HDTVs getting into some trouble. More streams are coming and some people have posted photos of their line stats.
My two year contract with TW is up and the letter I got in the mail said that if I don't notify them by 9/24 that I'm canceling my service my new monthly rate will be $10 more a month going forward. Their service is not all that bad but I don't see the need to to spend around $119 for my TW service when I can spend a few more dollars and get U450 at around $128 (with internet) and that includes all the movie channels and the sports package (hello GolTV). I was looking at Uverse online and it says I can get $100 back and have the install fee waived ($49) if I order online and when I called to talk to someone they couldn't give me this deal which I thought was kinda lame.
Very tempting indeed. You *should* be able to go on a 30-day money-back trial run with U-Verse and keep Time Warner for those same 30 days in order to do side-by-side comparisons. You'd probably have to make this clear with the installer though, but they should be willing to set you up in this fashion. Maybe you can even get U-450 for the 30 day trial run WITHOUT internet (TW internet has WatchESPN, whereas U-Verse just has ESPN3) and have both TV services side-by-side. If you like U-Verse enough to go with it, they can add the internet on over the phone. And in other news...
BeIN Sport HD should launch on DirecTV in about two weeks: http://www.tvpredictions.com/directv080812.htm The last post in this thread about the removal of GolTV probably isn't too surprising. http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/bein-sport-usa-speculation-thread.1947165/page-68
his "Cantona" guy seems to know his stuff. Short version: U-Verse launching soon; Time Warner will announce it on a national level, but it's up to each region/market to launch individually.
Shorter Version: DirecTV already has it. In fact, they simply placed it into GolTV's channel #'s. US @ Jamaica will be on at my house 9/7!!
Indeed. GolTV is slowly eroding into nothingness. Why BeIN Sport didn't buy GolTV outright is anyone's guess. They're certainly doing things the hard way. Edit: Here's more about GolTV. Going away from DirecTV's Sports Pack:
Well hopefully GolTV will stay around on Uverse because I've enjoyed the footy they have in the brief time I've had it. It might just be that its a new thing to me but I've been watching it more than FSC.
GolTV is Channel 420 on my DirecTV lineup (I think. Off the top of my head). It's just not part of the Sports Pack any more.
Blame it on bein sport. http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...emoved-from-directv-sports-pack-9-13.1973858/
Dish is going to be like 1984 TV before the year is over. Did they ever get AMC back? I haven't figured out if Dish is trying to do the right thing by not giving into the prices asked by these channels or they are just cheap and making their customers suffer.
