http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A7971-2003Mar10.html Now Bush is willing to work out a compromise (actually, he's hiding behind the political skirt of Britain) in an attempt to gain the approval of more nations on the Security Council.
If it's Britain, maybe it's a kilt. This, to me, is a very hopeful sign that Bush has a clue. His anti-UN stance has been a domestic political winner for him, but it was killing the US overseas. Here's a little bit of evidence that Bush's 2004 campaign isn't driving this war. Gives me a bit of hope.
He's already told us that he doesn't care what the American people thinks on the war issue, he's going in anyway. You'd think people, even the pro-war folks, would get a bit upset about being totally dissed like that by their own President but I guess a lot of people have no self-respect.
:raises hand: yep. currently getting dissed/made to look like an idiot for agreeing it was important to get saddam NOW. unfortunately that was like 3 years ago it seems. "ok ok let's...reword it! that'll get 'em"
He made his mind up last summer what to do - with or without the UN - but he is not going to sacrifice Tony Blair to do it. Bush has demonstrated two key traits that he is pretty consistent about - (1) ability to make a strong decision (right or wrong) and (2) loyalty. We may/may not agree that he has made the correct decision (and hope that the true smoking gun is protected in terms of intellligence sources and methods) .... but he is very loyal. I just don't see us doing anything without the UK. Our soldiers are going to get cooked in the sand and heat in order to save Blair's arse. That is the price to have some sort of a coalition. Here is a thought I have to credit to an acquaintance - let's say the heck with Iraq and just take over Saudi Arabia - then we deal with the real Al Qaeda problem - the troops are already there - we have access to even more oil - turn SA into a democracy - sell SA oil far cheaper than Iraq is - give the Palestinians a homeland .... just kidding.
Re: Re: Bush Willing To Compromise with UN :takes out stick to fend off liberals: i'm gonna shut the door on this one and say TO BLAIR. i think that was his point.
Re: Re: Bush Willing To Compromise with UN You're very right. Sincerely, Paul O'Neill and Larry Lindsey
Re: Re: Bush Willing To Compromise with UN Kidding? Too bad. I would wholeheartedly support this proposal. Seriously. You remember those terrorists on 9-11? They were Saudis.
Fuzzy math. By the way, btousley, that's pretty much my presidential platform right there. You're sure you're not serious?
In keeping with the spirit of Gringo Tex's post; how 'bout we drop a MOAB on Mecca's Black Rock and Medina's most holy Mosque during their annual pilgrimage?
