For the use of the judges to post their thoughts and opinions. General commentary and discussion can go on the roundup thread.
We'll be talking soon. It took the drafters OVER A MONTH to finish, yet you want instant results? Ha!
Two of the judges have completed their judging. As soon as we hear from the third judge, we'll let you know.
Maybe a special subgroup jury prize could go to one of the lists that only included places we'd seen. I think Wingtips, chaski, and I were all playing this way. Anyone else?
I think a special notice is appropriate, but nothing more... I've been to many countries, but I didn't want to limit myself because of countries I hadn't seen. My list would have been very different had I played it that way. It still would have been good though.
The Judges' decisions have been rendered and will be posted shortly. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The obligatory preliminary words: It was a great draft ... blah, blah, blah ... everyone had some great selections ... blah, blah blah ... or at least thought-provoking selections (the thought being "WTF was he thinking?!?) ... but since you requested judges, you want to know who the winner was, and since anything below 1st place is a loser, we'll start with the 1st place award: Getting the unanimous first place vote of all three judges ... The WINNER OF THE INAUGURAL BIGSOCCER BUILDING DRAFT is ... The man who was able to pick up Angkor Wat in the 2nd Round and Hagia Sofia in the 3rd Round ... The man who wants us to think of Kermit the Frog when we think of him ... Caesar. Congratulations, Caesar.
As to the runners up, the judges voting is as follows: Judge #1: Caesar Iceblink Bluto Wingtips Judge #2: Caesar Iceblink Wingtips Bluto Judge #3: Caesar Folha ExcapeGoat Iceblink
We recognized (I believe I stated so repeatedly during the draft) that the juding was neither the point nor the relevance of the draft, which was much fun for the participants, judges and viewers, regardless of winners or losers. Some folks obviously chose to limit themselves to buildings they had personally experienced, which naturally limits their possibilities of winning. And some folks clearly had a different sense of aesthetics than the judges - pick three different judges and you may well have had a different winner. That said, I would personally like to thank you for allowing me the privilege of acting as a judge.
Re: congratulations many thanks to the judges. i had fun doing this and learning about Buildings I had never heard of!
Good times all around. I discovered some I'd never heard of, was happy that y'all picked some I wouldn't have thought you'd pick and was disappointed you didn't pick some you should've. Thanks for asking me to judge.
hail caesar, both for your choices and all the admin work you've put in. ps--i'm still bitter you got to angkor, I considered picking that first and was hoping it would fall to second round... thanks to the judges. you guys did a good job wrt proxies/decisions. ps--I want those bribes back since you didn't elect me the winner.
wow, judge1 and judge2 basically have the same taste. I don't think this happen to other drafts. And congrats, Caesar! Checking out all the lists of drafters, I was suprised that how can the judges made their desicions, I think almost every drafter come up with a good/impressive list. BTW, are we gonna do a Art Draft now? (although I can tell ppl are getting tired of the whole draft thing now...)
I would love to participate in the art draft, but there needs to be fewer drafters and shorter clocks.
Whoohoo! Thanks everyone. I really enjoyed doing that... I know way, way more about architecture now than I did before we started. Lots of buildings came out I'd never heard of before. The "after the draft" selections were pretty eye-opening too. An art draft would be really cool. I'll observe on that one though, I don't know anything about the topic.
I think my favourite pick from the draft was the Sedelec Ossuary. Never heard of it before but damn, that's creepy and cool. A lot of the residential houses picked were pretty amazing as well - makes me want to be really rich and hire one of these guys to build my place - and everyone who picked US buildings taught me fair bit about American architecture as well.
