I'd like to see Buddle do well for the for the Rapids, but like me, I'm guessing a lot of fans are already looking past him for an impact forward, even though he hasn't suited up in burgundy yet.

Looks like Brown, Akpan and Luton (if it's true) are going to get time at up top (in the center of a three man front line). Brown might need to mature and produce quickly, especially if the Rapids don't sign a DP.

I'm surprised we heard nothing further on the extent of his injury this week.

Hmmmm. In this case no news may *not* be good news.

That's good news. Hopefully they give him more than 2 weeks to recover, I wouldn't want them to rush him back for meaningless preseason games.

No kidding. Given his history and with this injury right off the bat, I will be surprised if we get more than 15 appearances out of him this year.

just hope he can verbally teach or show while healthy how brown should play with his back to goal.

Hence why I'd rather just see him get cut. OR, if only we had set up the deal with a USL Pro team, we could have pawned him off on them.

Could be, but still our most experienced forward.

After Buddle's 93 career goals, career goals Mullan: 29, Harris: 17, Moor: 16

Goals as a Rapid, Castrillon: 8, Moor, Pablo: 7

balboa brought up an interesting point about buddle injury and the camp... they cram a large amount of fitness work into 2 weeks and it can lead to swelling... which could be enough to send him home from camp cupcake

True, but all I heard was they were told to come into camp in " game shape" and raves from JK on how early the balls were brought out because everyone was in such good shape

"Everyone" is a less objective term in general usage than what we might hope for.

I hope Buddle can stay healthy. There was a time when I would have been ecstatic to have him on the Rapids, but that was 5-6 years ago.

I still think it was a smart pick up. He's only a few seasons removed from a Golden Boot. If (and I know that is a big if) he can stay healthy, we should be able to get some production out of him.

Have to agree but like Jason pointed out he is only proven scorer we have. Hope some new guys have break out years and we can trade Buddle (or Buddle lights it up and makes us all eat these words), but right now it looks pretty ugly on who can score for us.

And he is cheaper than Casey who we also would have been wondering when and not if he gets hurt. For both you are paying them based on the hope they can still perform the way they did when fully healthy, but at least with Buddle we are saving some money. Still stinks to see Casey go, but the whole thing makes sense given the circumstances.

Except, we didn't trade Casey for Buddle. We traded cash to LA for Buddle. We didn't have to pick up an injured forward on the discount with that cash; we could have saved it for International Forward X or someone else in the league who's just as productive without the injury problems (Kenny Cooper comes to mind, or any of the glut of forwards SJ has).

Bravo quote re: the aquisition of Buddle back in Dec. "“Edson is an explosive, dynamic forward who is among the top scorers in MLS history,” said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. “He’s a strong presence up top, with both size and skill, and he has great experience in MLS, Germany, and the U.S. National Team. We’re happy to welcome him to the Rapids.”

Me thinks Bravo was smitten with Buddle during his time in LA (understandable given his past performance) therefore clouding his objectivity which may have lead to ignoring his age and *ongoing* knee issues that were evident before the aquisition took place, . Granted, the need for an experienced/proven forward in place of Casey is defendable, but as stated by RapidStorm choosing Buddle with injury was not the best move, at best a gamble. I surely hope for his sake and ours he can recover, participate, and produce, but I ain't holding my breath.
