Now, I know that not all of us are washed up old guys (Tio, TTM, etc.). I know some of us are still active and playing the sport we love - futbol, football, soccer, whateeever. Here we will share our former and current soccer stories. I'll post after every game I have. Our season began on Sunday, but I'll get the game report posted a little later. Sharing is caring...so don't be shy!
I play on 2 teams right now. One of them in some park district league with about 30 teams. Not the top level in Chicago but still pretty competitive..although some teams really suck. I joined last year after their coach came up to me at the park and said he liked how i played. This year i had offers from last years champ and some other teams that finished top 5 but i didnt want to be bogus to that other team and i declined. Now we barely have 11 ppl each game and a lot of the guys are horrible. It's too late to switch teams so i guess i use this team to build up confidence. The other team im on plays in the Primera (under Especial, and Mayor). Its my uncles team, but i joined them 10 games into the season because i had a team in the Mayor trying to bribe me only to tell me they didnt have anymore room. So when i joined they were 3rd to last out of 16 teams, playoffs werent looking very likely. Now were on a 5 game winning streak and were in 6th place i think. 2 more games to go and then playoffs if we keep it up. I used to play sweeper or left back but have been playing center mid or winger.
Last game I played was in 1992, which is when I graduated from high school. I was a goalie and I think I was very good, but not good enough to catch the eye of a college recruiter.. we were undefeated on my junior year but we were not champs.. I never knew how that happened.. anyway it was good times.. I meant to keep up playing, but in college i was introduced to beer and nicotine on a mass scale.. rest is history. This guy was my hero: Harald Anton Schumacher, He was Germany's NT goalie for 16 years, and when I graduated from High School he was playing in Bayern Munich.. This was pre-internet, MLS, US soccer popularity, etc.. no chance of getting his jersey.. P.S. 4 years ago, a friend took me to the park to play a cascarita, and it was fun, at that time I was so out of shape. now that I go to the gym and stuff, i should go and join a local elderly luague ..
I played for my HS a few years back. Got back into it last year. I'm really really rusty, especially endurance-wise, but it all comes back.
if you think your teammates are inept, you should see the guys that play drop in with me. i don't get how there can be 7 guys on an indoor field and there are still guys that run hald the field unchallenged you like to take out frenchies too? i could've played college, at least community college, pero no juge por pendejo y ahora me arrepiento. i played comp on a full ride when i was younger but never took it serioulsy, and it showed. puras fallas.
I scored two golazos last night for my indoor team. I was hailed as a heroe. I want to change the name to Los Metaleros del Norte.
No quite, but close. Actually, we have a pretty good mix. Our best player is a 17 year old high school kid.
Last time i played with a team was 1997.. I was on the Olympic squad (not actually Olympics, but that's what they called the league here... it's sponsored by Lipton) in NJ. I was good at midfield... I coulda been a contender, if it wasn't for this bum knee.
I don't play. I have never played. My girls are pretty good. The oldest played on a college scholarship. I can do a mean elliptical machine these days though. I pwn a stationary bike also.
Y metes golazos... Ya tengo buen tiempo que no juego. Mi ex-suegro me invita a cascarear... not a good idea, me thinks. Mad skillz, yo!
I'm a cachirul in an over 35 league that my dad and uncle play in. Even though I suck I did score a pretty sick goal a couple of weeks ago, I was on a break away on the left side of the field and chipped it over the goalie and into the top right corner I was actually trying to cross it to a teammate that was in the middle of the area, but nobody needs to know that
JAJAJA. One of my goals was like that. Like when as soon as you hit the ball you know you hit it wrong? That is what happened, I was trying to cross it. It took a wicked curve and went it. AL RINCONCITO PAPA!!! De tres dedos.
i think omar blanco's auto gol was worse. too bad it was before every game was being posted on you tube. if you do go, i'll just be sure to not be on your team.
