Just to put a bow on this thread. Steven Goff @SoccerInsider 1h Getting word FC Dallas won the lottery for Brian Span #mls
That'd be kinda cool. They have had experience with a certain tall lanky winger before. It'll be interesting how he does there.
No longer a YA but will be cool to see him play and see if any European influence has rubbed off on him.
Finnish club IFK Mariehamn write on their website today that Span will be trialing with them starting this wednesday.
He scored for Mariehamn today in the Finnish Cup 3-3 draw vs FC Inter @bungadiri or @Friedel'sAccent - I think that means a thread change
Span was presented officially as their new signing by IFK Mariehamn today. Seems like a good spot for him, if I remember correctly he has a girlfriend in Stockholm which is quite nearby and they also speak only swedish there which he at least have some understanding of. Probably a good level for him too.
Brian Span scored Mariehamn's first goal today in their 12-0 win over TamU-K in the Finnish Suomen Cup.— Over There (@socceroverthere) March 19, 2015
Apparently, TamU-K is a supporter-run club that is the successor to Tampere United, which went bust a few years ago. Currently in the 5th division, which is why they're losing matches 12-0.
Waltrip is only 37. If he really cared, he could probably head back over there and be their best player!
Span went 90 in a 2-1 win on Fri. Mariehamn is technically in first place, althoughKuPS (McCarthy, Adu) is only two pts back with two games in hand.
Another goal: And in Finland, Brian Span scored the game-tying goal in Mariehamn's 1-1 draw to HIFK.— Over There (@socceroverthere) June 28, 2015
He scored 3 goals in 33 games in the league (32 starts). IFK Mariehamn finished 6th in the league. The club also on the Suomi Cup. Brian scored 2 goals in 4 games (3 starts) in national cup play. That included going 71 minutes in their 2-1 final win over Inter Turku in September. The club will be in the 2016/2017 Europa League first qualifying round.
It appears he has re-signed for another season: https://t.co/UOKTh15ERg one more season! #ifk #europaleague let's go! pic.twitter.com/YDdvi4RXRF— Brian Cobi Span (@CobiFresh) December 8, 2015
And some Europa League action today: American midfielder Brian Span went 90 in IFK Mariehamn's (Finland) 2-0 loss @ Odds BK (Norway), Leg 1 #EuropaLeague 1st Qualif. Rd. #USMNT— Roderick MacNeil (@rodmacneil) July 1, 2016
Brian Span was in Mariehamn's starting lineup on Thursday, as the team drew Norwegians Odds BK with a 1-1 score at home, but nevertheless exited the competition on a 3-1 aggregate score. http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=show&id=11992
In what is apparently a big underdog story, Mariehamn has won the Finnish league title with a 2-1 win over Ilves. Span played the full 90 and finished the season with 31 appearances (27 starts) and 2 goals.
What a parade today! #IFK #Gold pic.twitter.com/SBBf7bww3P— Brian Cobi Span (@CobiFresh) October 24, 2016 Featuring a really weird trophy.
