Breaker Fans, I figured you might like to see some of the stories being posted out there about last week's WPS Draft, and some of the players we selected. Some of these you may have already seen (a few are posted on our website), others perhaps not. I think in particular, in addition to some of the great local press we saw from the Globe (see A-Rod and Post-Draft), it was good to see some coverage from places like ESPN and Goal.com as well. U.S. U-23 Women's National Team Will Travel to Europe to Face Norway and England First U.S. U-23 Roster Made Up Primarily of Professional Players Will Participate in Three-Team Tournament in La Manga, Spain CHICAGO (Jan. 22, 2009) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team will travel to Europe from Jan. 31-Feb. 7 for two matches as part of a three-team competition in La Manga, Spain. The USA will face Norway on Feb. 4 and England on Feb. 6. This will be the first U.S. U-23 roster that features a majority of professional players with 11 of the 18 having been drafted by clubs in the new WPS. During the three years that the WUSA was in existence, this youth national team was run as a U-21 program, meaning the player pool for the USA’s oldest women’s youth national team were almost all in college and/or amateur players. Kasey Moore Called Up to U.S. U-23 National Team Boston Breakers defender Kasey Moore was named to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team’s 18-player roster for a two-match competition in Spain in early February, it was announced this afternoon by U.S. Soccer. Moore, who was Boston’s second selection in last week’s WPS Draft (third round, 15th overall), has eight previous caps with the U-23 squad. She is a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year at the University of Texas who shared the team lead in scoring in 2008 with 16 points (six goals and four assists). The three-time All-American finished her collegiate career ranked first in the Longhorn record books in matches played (91), second in game-winning goals (nine), ninth in goals (19) and 10th in points (50). Congrats Kasey!
