This moronic brazilian jornalist which is in dc for the game in his 2 days in the states came to the conclusion that soccer in america including mls is dead and nobody cares. He also says only latinos care (as if they werent americans also) and generalizes that americans think games played with feet are for inferior intelects.

Here is my tweet about it. Educate this guy.

From @BlogVermelho: @ussoccer a misinformed brazilian jornalist @cosmerimolireal wrote tday that never has soccer in us been so rejected http://t.co/Gxz69uK3

Man, you really lose your time reading an R7 article? This website has no credibility. Also, nobody here pays attention to them.

I think this topic wasn't necessary.

If only the mighty Brazil's average attendances could better the puny little MLS...

MLS may be dead but soccer overall is rising. Pubs are always packed at 7 am or so watching EPL matches. Our best prospects both current and future are playing either abroad or down south in Mexico. The future looks bright for the sport of soccer...not sure about MLS though based on current TV ratings and brand/league awareness amongst most Americans

Lol, nonsensical garbage. You're an embarrassment to yourself with comments like that. I'd think carefully about a follow up comment justifying your claim that MLS is dead, for fear of further self-immolation.

not really MLS is a piss poor quality league that enslaves top prospects where they damage their career and can't prosper, case in point being Herculez Gomez who had to leave to Mexico to prosper yet he states clearly that he has always had the ability to perform but MLS does not know how to develop talent

Soccer is growing, people like watching high quality so they rather watch European soccer or at least Mexican league soccer.

ratings are proof buddy, 650 million watching world wide for the Man U Man City game, also ratings higher for EPL re runs than MLS championship match

You can't even buy a clue, can you?

"Ratings are proof" that MLS sucks? See my comment above, buddy.

    lol you mad
its general consensus that MLS is a lower quality league and therefore citizens don't watch the games and aren't really aware of teams, most players, and of the league entirely. I go everywhere around my college and never seen anyone where an MLS jersey and don't see anyone ever talking about an MLS game. However, I do see them wearing EPL jeseys, Mexico jerseys, and talking about UEFA Champions league games and EPL games or La Liga games. Probably all reasons that added to why the Journalist said so about MLS. As for growth of OVERALL soccer he is wrong, since European and international soccer is growing here rapidly and is quite popular amongst youth.

You could make the same generalization about any league outside of a handful of European and Latin American leagues. Of course the MLS looks dead compared to the EPL (and the NFL obviously) but that doesn't mean it isn't a healthy league.

i wouldn't say MLS is dead. But it hasn't entered the culture like International soccer and the USNT has. There are lots of reasons for this which one can really only speculate about. First off the USNT appeals to the whole country while MLS just appeals to the cities that have MLS teams. Since there is no promotion/relegation there's no reason for fans of soccer teams in other cities to pay attention to the league. So the whole country isn't involved unlike leagues in Europe and S. America.

I haven't watched an MLS game this year but I watched a few last year and I didn't think the quality of play was that poor. I think you could take the top 2 MLS teams last year and they would be a middle of the table Championship side in England.

Everywhere around your college no one talks about MLS? You sure get around. Well, with your vast experience and 10 days of BigSoccer membership I bow to your superior knowledge. ::rolls eyes::

I've been following American soccer longer than you've been alive. Maybe you should take a broader view and realize that by every measure MLS is growing: attendance, TV deals, dedicated stadiums, franchise value, players sent to major European and other international leagues.

Are we up to the standards of the EPL, Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga...or even the Mexican league? Of course not. Not even close...but MLS is most assuredly growing in quality and popularity.

P.S. - It's odd that you spent time cheering on the Galaxy in their forum last night (in their loss to the 4th division Michigan Bucks) considering that you view MLS as a "piss poor quality league."

Funny, at both my undergraduate university and now at my law school, I hear people talking about MLS all the time. I see people in MLS shirts, as well as other teams.

Your personal experience doesn't make something true.

    Show your work.

Hercules ? Oh, you mean the same Hercules that left Mexico first because he couldn't get playing time and then played 141 matches in America ? The one that only scored 3 goals in his last 54 appearances with MLS teams ? That Hercules ?

Right, his form had nothing to do with him leaving .... not at all.

And we'll check where the popularity of MLS is when it has over 100 years of history (English clubs), fan base building, and community roots (70yrs for Mexican clubs).

    K ?

LOL everyone in this thread mad that I dissed the Mickey mouse league! This thread is about the growth of overall soccer in the country. Now my opinion for why the journalist said that soccer is dead may have been based on info I mentioned earlier but I stated that I think the journalist is wrong since European and international soccer is very big here in the states.

Now everyone needs to stop getting butt hurt and whining whenever I state my opinions, Im just agreeing with op that the journalist was wrong about his article.

I support the la galaxy because a.) born and raised and go to college in LA
    B.) I always support local teams ( Lakers,Dodgers,Kings,USC,Galaxy)
And c.) regardless of quality and knowing that the soccer isn't as good as the soccer being played in Europe I will still always support my local teams because I'm a proud Angelino and SoCal resident

Now if u guys wanna whine more I can set up a gmail account where you can email me and let me know

Right now I'm gonna go to a friends house and get ready to watch a high quality international friendly today
Enjoy the rest of your day and your jobs

So if all of that is true, then why is the first sentence of your first post in this thread started with "MLS may be dead" .... and the second post of yours in this thread starts "not really MLS is a piss poor quality league that enslaves top prospects where they damage their career and can't prosper" ?

You're a ********ing troll and get called on it every time you do it. Hell, even in your "defense" you labeled it a Mickey Mouse league. Go swallow a knife, I hate you.

Which has dick all to do with you continuously bashing Major League Soccer ... on MLS forums. Nice acceptance by non-acknowledgment though, of your being wrong and a troll.

Then again, I'd probably not want to watch the MLS and pretend it was dead if I was a Galaxy fan right now
