i'm surprised of all the shaktar boys - jadson gets the cap. i would love to see douglas costa at the SR NT level - he's a game changer. at least hernanes is going to play. way overdue, since the USA friendly. i wonder what the long term plans are for Julio Cesar - i can imagine him sticking around until the copa america and that's it...
Meu palpite para o time titular: Goleiro: Júlio César (Inter de Milão-ITA) Zagueiros: David Luiz (Benfica-POR), Thiago Silva (Milan-ITA) Laterais: Daniel Alves (Barcelona-ESP), André Santos (Fenerbahce-TUR) Volantes: Lucas (Liverpool-ING), Ramires (Chelsea-ING) Meias: Elias (Atlético de Madrid-ESP), Renato Augusto (Bayer Leverkusen-ALE) Atacantes: Pato (Milan-ITA), Robinho (Milan-ITA)
My guess: -----Robinho-------Pato------- -----------Jadson/RA---------- ------Hernanes-----Ramires---- ------------Lucas-------------- --Marcelo------------D. Alves--- ---------T. Silva---D. Luiz------- ---------------JC---------------
Marcelo doesn't belong in the starting lineup ..Otherwise team look solid ..Not sure of Ramires though.. Brazil lost the 2006 and 2010 WC because of the problem at the left side of defense..a team with Marcelo as left back is a disaster in waiting!!
Well he has the talent to be in the starting line-up. It all depends on how the coach chooses to balance the team. Marcelo can start if we intend to bring our attacks from the left, which I think will be likely. This has been the trend in some of the games where we had Andre Santos starting. I think Marcelo is a better attacker of course. Mano just has to ensure that there's adequate cover -- that would mean either Thiago Silva or Lucas covering a bit of the left. We'll definitely have a better idea of the line-up the weekend before the game.
You obviously do not know how Brazil traditionally play - with attacking full backs/laterais! Does anyone remember Cafu and Roberto Carlos?!! Our midfielders and central defenders know this so should be on the case when it comes to covering.
Marcelo is better than André Santos in all aspects. André Santos has been utilized as a left winger before at Fenerbahce, because his marking is sub-par. Given what Mano has called up, I made what seems to be the most likely lineup he will go with. It's not my ideal lineup or call-up. As far as covering for Marcelo or whoever plays on the left, you have to remember that both Hernanes and Ramires are both above average markers. They both have played in a DM role of some capacity in their careers at a good level. If Marcelo goes up in attack, I am sure whoever plays on the left will sit a bit deep to cover.
i want mano to dump andre santos once and for all. im tired of his nepotism which happens to be even worse than dunga's. i want him to test out filipe luis because his defense is arguably better than marcelo's and andre santos'.
I think the 'foe' you have against your info says it all. Club bias. A fair-minded person would say Andre Santos has played well under Mano.
i've mentioned the better options. my club allegiance has nothing to with my opinion. mano is a huge nepotist (and I might add that Brazil has really only played one good game and that was the USA one). one need not look any further than his calling up and then playing Douglas dos Santos from Gremio (who gift-wrapped the goal for Argentina). I mean jesus christ.
Some of the best players make errors (21/6/86...........three top players failed to convert penalty kicks in the same game!). OK. You keep up the pretence about club bias an I will simply judge on a player's performance (without thinking about which club he come from).
You're comparing a legend to an average player who shouldnt even be in the national team picture. And to be quite honest, at least with respect to Zico. He was past his prime and injured that cup. Kinda like some other players we have relied on in recent World Cups -- RC, Cafu, Ronaldo, Kaka. But that's a discussion for another day. My point is that a midfielder who had no business EVER on the national team was used and his idiocy cost us a meager draw against our most fierce rival - if it was another friendly, I wouldn't have cared. There was no sense in ever using Douglas ever. A 28 year old player who was nothing more than an average player in Brazil. I think that's quite obvious. And a player like Andre Santos shouldnt be so heavily favored when there are better and more sound options out there who are 3-6 years younger than him. He has played better than Bastos, but that's not really saying anything. The worry I have is that history is repeating itself. I liked Dunga. But some of his call-ups made no sense. And then he becomes attached to particular players. Some made sense because they actually delivered results (Elano, Nilmar). And others didn't (Baptista, Gilberto Silva). And when you have this fixation with certain players and ignore better options out there, it hurts the team. Right now I can see clear warning signs he is fixated on certain players. Andre Santos and Lucas stand out to me when he should still be experimenting at this stage (especially when you consider that he experiments at attacking midfield and not so much on the defensive midfield end). I think Lucas is a good player, but he has been inconsistent for Brazil and on Liverpool. But I want to see other players used in the position - and more frequently - Denilson, Anderson, Luiz Gustavo, Jucilei, etc and not have the guy start just because the coach is in love with him. It's still early, but I think "Mano's List" may be closing faster than we imagine.
Denilson should not be anywhere near the national team - decidedly average he be. Lucas, though improving, is a lucky boy to be a regular me thinks - I would like Thiago Silva to be put there and the monster that is Lucio can then be called and play with (currently) David Luiz. Andre Santos has done nothing wrong so should stay (and I say that as a fan of Marcelo).
This is a Brazilian coach thing IMO; they always bias it seem but I agree with leonidas. We have much better options in certain position and we hardly test them out. For example, Diego Alves is probably our best keeper after Julio Cesar and he has not sniff a minute of NT play and the list goes on and on.
IMO, players that deserve a chance: GKs: Diego Alves, Rafael (Olympics). JC was here but he got called this time. These guys, together with Gomes and a few others perhaps, are all better than Victor at pure talent or skill x age factor . CBs: Lúcio still has some energy to spare, could be useful for Copa América and perhaps the Olympics. Otherwise I've been very satisfied by the players that were called. LBs: Felipe Luis, Luis Gustavo needs to be tested, Marcelo needs play time now. Our options are scarce unfortunately. RBs: Maicon. Having Alves and Maicon in the squad was so awesome. DMFs: Fernando (the one from the Portuguese League) FFS. Fernando from Sub20 is impressing me so far as well, but it's too soon. Arouca is a monster when he is fit. Maybe Denilson? Also, Thiago Silva has been playing in this position at Milan and he is a MONSTER there, with our unusual deep talent pool at the CB positions maybe he could be tried there as well, closest player we have of a prime Gilberto Silva (even the surname is the same! ) CMFs: Ramires has to get out for the moment, IMO. He needs time to settle at Chelsea... Hernanes / Anderson must be tested in this position ( I hope that we see that against France). Casemiro is probably earning a call up after the Sub20... Olympics in mind. Elano is destroying everything at Santos. AMFs: When we get a fit Kaká and Ganso together, we will have the best midfield in the world. Willian deserves a look as well, and Douglas Costa has potential so he needs to stay in the radar. Let's see how Renato Augusto perfoms in the friendly, I have High expectations... And I'm afraid that Giuliano shot himself in the foot (with a bazooka) by moving to Anipro or whatever... Maybe Lucas, if he learns when to pass the damn ball, again Olympics in mind. SSs: We are set here with players like Neymar, Robinho, Hulk. Maybe Nene deserves a look as well...? CFs: I believe that Luis Fabiano deserves to be mentioned, even if he was not a fans's favorite he always played very well for us when we needed him the most. Pato is a bit unstable at Milan, but maybe it's because he is turning into a pure CF instead of a wide player, and Ibra is the starting CF, no questions asked. They already showed good "entrosamento" against USA, the Neymar and Pato partnership have a great future with us. Nilmar gets the job done most of the time, I really like him... Some pundit from Band (Neto) wanna see Kleber there, I'm not a big fan of him myself. Players I don't agree with Mano: Victor, André Santos as an absolute starter (not saying that he has been playing bad or us, but I guess we need to test as much players as possible here), Ramires, Jucilei, André, AND MOST OF ALL DOUGLAS GODAMNIT! ... But after Mano's outbreak when Douglas gifted the goal for Argentina I don't reckon he will get much more chances, gladly We have a long road ahead of us, let's use our time wisely.
I am speaking in general. Parriera did not play our best 11, Dunga did not play aour best 11 and Mano is not playing our best 11. There was always a LB, DM, etc. that was better. This is not a bad thing. In Mano case, Hernanes is playing better and is better option to start over Ramires and Marcelo is better than Andre Santos and Filipe is probably better than both. We also have better DM's than Lucas like Fernando and F. Melo . I am not saying we should start these players over them but test them out.
I definitely agree that Thiago Silva deserves a look at d-mid as well. Let's not forget that Gilberto Silva started out as a CB long long ago. I mean how much better would our defense be (at least in this 2 year cycle) if we used Luiz and Lucio at CB with Thiago Silva as our d-mid. WOW. I also think that Lucio is a player who appears to be capable of playing till he's 35 or 36, much like a Maldini. Definitely agree with Luiz Gustavo -- either at LB or D-Mid. Anytime you have a Brazilian playing for a top club in Europe, he merits a look. I know he's just moved to Bayern now, but he merits a serious look for the Copa America team this summer. Let's also not forget the outcasts in Ukraine. I mean, if Mano can call up guys who don't deserve to be on the team now (Jadson), at least call up his more talented team mates! Willian (who is of Olympic age I think), Douglas Costa, and Alex Teixeira (who needs to leave ASAP). Luiz Adriano is another, although he hasnt quite developed like I would have hoped. Another center back that MUST be looked at is Douglas from Twente -- who this year will be eligible for Dutch citizenship. Earth to Mano. Call this guy up. 1.92 Brazilian centerbacks don't just grow on trees! The good news is that he might be transferred in the summer. Our biggest concern though has to be the lack of a center forward - the #9. Still in the same position. Only Pato. And Fabiano, although he's already 30. There really arent many guys we can call up, unfortunately. While only 18, this guy could be the future http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alípio
Yes but WHO'S best eleven - yours? Mine? It is a game of opinions. I remember before the 1994 Copa with Placar having their ideal team on the cover with Palhinha in for Dunga. What did happen to Palhinha?!!
