I wish you all merry christmas and happy lazy days as F96 said:)

i´m spending my christmas in wonderful bavaria..in munich and then we are going to bavarian alps..

i love christmas..it is the best holiday..not just because of presents...

i actually would give anyone all my money, my BMW and everything i have for having my father back...each christmas, which is family holiday, i realize how much i miss my father that died few years ago....i know my wish to see my father again, will never come true..
but when i close my eye, i see him in heaven....i always take few minutes time for myself during the christmas and just think of my father....then i have a nice celebration with my family..and this is what i like....spend a nice time with my family..

merry christmas for you all here..

    bltleo.

Didn't really go anywhere for Christmas, but wasn't online as often. Either way, happy holidays everyone!

For the first time in ages, I did a bit of shopping on boxing day. Sweet deals on good headphones and a few records. I'll wait on the pricey items when I have kids to share the blame! :D

Welcome back then, even if you weren't away :D. Sound like my kind of shopping :D.

Exactly! They finally found out what to put on sale to get me out of the house on Boxing Day! Annoying roommates and noise canceling headphones go hand in hand! :D

Personally I can't stand headphones. I have an old (and very old-school looking :D) pair, but that would only be for emergencies (well, I don't know what such a case of emergency would look like, but whatever). Still, records and hifi related stuff is close enough :D.

Not horrible, but alright. My asthma has been horrible this month, but I am still among the living (this post is not being ghost written). The weather forced us to cancel our visit to my cousins and see some of the extended family on my side.

The university was supposed to be opened on December 24th until noon, but the President decided that the impending weather would be a bit too much and closed the university for the entire day. That was nice, but I woke up Christmas eve day with 7 inches of snow to dispense with. Thankfully, one of my early Christmas gifts was a snowblower (Greatest. Invention. EVER.), and I made quick work of the snow. I even snow plowed the neighbor's driveway, without them even knowing. :) Now, this is where it gets exciting. It wasn't that cold and hovered around 32°F (freezing point for us Fahrenheit types). It snowed a bit more, but the snow was starting to be a little more wet. On Christmas Day, my Mother, Aunt, brother, and his wife were coming over to have a Christmas breakfast feast and watch Veronika open up presents. After I got 'Nika taken care of and handed her off to the wife, I headed back out to see what Mother Nature had left for me. A lot less than the previous day, but here is the kicker, it was like lifting cement. Very wet snow. This made snowblowing a little more difficult and I had to make a deal with Mephistopheles, but I eventually got most of the snow out of the area. Since the city was in Snow Emergency, which means restricted parking until they plow the streets, I had to make an even larger space in the back for everyone to park. I am sure come Spring I will have to plant a lot of grass seed there. LOL.

Weather aside, food was a plenty. Muffins, LF made Ebelskiver, some with chocolate filling and others with lemon curd. Tons of bacon. Just good comfort food. Veronika enjoyed all of her presents, which included some dvd's, clothes, some duplo blocks, [ame="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EQGT00/ref=asc_df_B000EQGT00994674?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000EQGT00"]a play farm[/ame] (see link), and a basic Thomas/Train set. Oh, Alex will like this, she also got a huge stuffed bear. One that is like a body pillow. So she can really cuddle and roll all over it. :)

For the afternoon, we went to LF's folks and had dinner. A few of her Aunts & Uncles showed up, so it was a packed house with about 30 people. For these events it is kind of like a buffet style dinner. Lot's of ham, turkey and all the fixings, including several varieties of potatoes. I didn't see any cranberries. LOL Oh, and a few pies and a ton of Christmas cookies.

I have to tell you I was pretty good and didn't stuff myself and did not even have a piece of pie until we got home.

Now, here I am, at work.....until noon.

About 10 years ago we had to work, but the library doors were shut to the public. For about the last 5 years we have been open. We do get a few grad students coming in during the break, but not enough to warrant us being open, IMHO. Unfortunately, this was ordered by the university administration.

I guess the good thing is that I can work with relative peace.

    Happy new year, everyone.

Hope it gets better - and glad to have you with us! Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas - nothing particularily spectacular happend to me, I'm currently somewhat "learning", I guess. Exams in January and February.

You know me too well :D. And semi-related... I got a playmobil farm for one of my birthdays as a kid. Ok, it's a really vague relation, but whatever. At least my 6 or 7 years old self can now show off his presents once more.

    Happy New Year!

1990 was 20 years ago: what a shot of realism to make you feel ancient! :(

I already started to feel ancient when teenagers began to call me "Sie" (which is probably something English speakers won't experience, but we Germans all have to go through this :D).

But yeah, I still feel as if 1990 was, like, yesterday. My flannel shirt doesn't fit me anymore :(

If I used 'du', would that make you feel better?

Does anyone feel better if I use "Du"?

Ironically, I would be one of those geeks who still used 'Sie'.

I've always prefered du and tu and first names even when not appropriate.

Many foreigners do this - but we'd be on Du-terms surely, don't worry ;).

I'd like to think so, but I try not to assume with the Germans. ;)

And now I have "bist du...(whatever)?" as a phrase, running in my head.

If you know people privately, and don't live in the 19th century or earlier, Du is always a good guess :D.

And just to keep David Hasselhoff from being the most recent singer featured here :D:
