R.I.P. Vernon Forrest. Atlanta Journal-Constitution What the hell is happening in this world of ours? Forrest was one of my favorites. I didn't know he had retired and would occasionally look at the schedules to see if he had an upcoming bout. Un-f**kin'-believable.
bump. Lots of boxing coming up in the next few months after a rather slow start. Pacquiao/Clottey PPV card this week, anyone buying?
Thought about it but got home a little late and decided against it. Ended up getting a live stream from a friend and watched it on my laptop. I'm so glad I didn't drop $50 for this. I honestly expected a little bit more from Clottey. He has the size and strength but I don't know what it is about him that makes him so gun-shy. He could've taken the fight against Cotto but for some reason backed down. In this fight, he barely did much of anything. It was all defense. He conceded that Manny was too fast, but don't just stand there and block. Ahh well. I think the Mosley/Mayweather fight should be better than this but we'll see if I decide to order it.
haye just murdered ruiz knocked him down 3 times and once with a rabbit punch impressive, ruiz took alot of ko worthy punches
If anyone wants to listen to a tape of Arum saying the Mayweather fight is delayed again with Pacquiao, go here and start listening at about the halfway point as you hear Arum's lie and the two hosts commentating on Arum as he weasels. (the elevator music immediately proceeds the teleconference) http://www.theboxingtruth.com/listen.php?id=252 The two fights he proffered for Pacquiao: a second bout with Cotto (why? who would pay to watch that?) and a bout with Margarito in Mexico of all places (why is he not banned from the sport yet?). Also, it looks like Alexander Povetkin has developed a terrible virus called "Haye Fever" and will pull out from fighting Wladimir Klitschko on September 11th, despite him having a mandatory title shot for two and a half years and not cashing it in and this fight being the best payday of his career. Will be made clear today. If he pulls out, the title fight will go to Sam Peter, the next person on the IBF ranking past Povetkin.
Arum is such a sham. He never re-negotiated new terms from his original offer to Mayweather. Pac beats Marg faster than Sugar Shane. I would only be slightly interested in a Cotto rematch at 154.
I think Cotto would likely do better at that weight. The catch weight of their previous fight was ridiculous. I'm not sure if you know, but the last two pounds in making weight are usually the most difficult. The additional two pounds below welter for a guy who had crazy problems making jr welter had to amplify the effort on Cotto's part. He would comfortably make 154, and I think a size advantage plays into this fight on behalf of Cotto. Still...he may be worn a bit with the battles he's already endured. This shop worn title almost definitely applies to Margarito.
It's a shame Mayweather is too scared of Pacman and always makes excuses to not fight him. Would be a terrific fight, Mayweather needs to grow some balls
Mayweather needs to grow some balls? Tell pac-man to take the blood test and the fight would be on. Never heard of a guy moving up 8 or 9 different weight classes and knocking out opponents who have been at that weight class at a long period of time. All sudden he has full facial hair and looking like the south east asian hulk. Hmmmm I'm just saying.
Are you guys ready for Pacquiao-Marques Pt III yet next week? Anyways, here is the final installment of the HBO's 24/7 prefight special(part 3) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGA2G5DOCpA&feature=related"]24/7 Ep 3 PACQUIAO vs MARQUEZ pt 1 of 2 (SWEETBOXING.COM) - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD21ZbWEyPw&feature=related"]24/7 Ep 3 PACQUIAO vs MARQUEZ pt 2 of 2 (SWEETBOXING.COM) - YouTube[/ame]
Ready I am. There is no telling what may happen. I like how both boxers exhibe respect but also confidence in the lead up. Both have also endured grueling training camps. That said, go Pac Man!
Looks like Pacman is very motivated this time. He felt disrespected by Marquez'es comments. I predict a knockout coming.
Much more conservative fight, not nearly as exciting as the previous 2. Slightly dissapointed by Pac man. Still entertaining. The big question is, will we see version 4? I think not, bu we'll see.
I thought Marquez won. Very good fight though. I think a 4th fight will happen, because the Mayweather side and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum hate each other. Arum would rather do this again than work with Mayweather.
I also had it for Marquez. Completely underestimated him. I thought Pac would win this one easy after Mayweather destroyed him in their last fight. Pac just couldn't get through Marquez's defense. Marquez kept him at bay with quick counters and fought almost a perfect fight. Pac, when he did throw his combos, kept narrowly landing the power punches. If anything, I think this fight showed us that Mayweather is the best boxer in the world.
I hope Mayweather-Pacquaio fight comes to fruition soon so we can definitively answer that question. Styles makes fights. Back in the day, Frazier defeated Ali, Foreman demolished Frazier, then Ali outfoxed Foreman. So it is not a sure thing that just because Mayweather beat Marquez decisively that the outcome is a foregone conclusion. Remember that when comparing other fighters they both fought aside from Marquez, Manny usually won more decisively as well plus Mayweather ducked both elite bigger fighters Cotto and Margarito whom Manny fought and easily won.
Mayweather just challenged Pacquiao on twitter to a fight on May 5th. Says he got his jail sentence delayed just for it. Rumour says Mayweather's managment has already booked the MGM Grand for that date. http://twitter.com/#!/FloydMayweather/status/156806791773163522 http://twitter.com/#!/FloydMayweather/status/156807137908113408
