Here are some latin phrases: Ad alta = to the top/apex Amat victoria curam = Victory favors those who take pains Ascendo tuum = up yours Audaces fortuna iuvat = fortune favors the bold De profundis = up from the depths Resurgens = Rising again Quis separabit? = Who shall separate us? or combine some and say: De profundis et ad alta! = Up from the depths and to the top.
Also...nothing is saying the motto has to be Latin (although there's nothing saying it can't be). I wish the Union had stuck with "JOIN, or DIE" instead of faux-classicizing it into "Jungite aut Perite". It's just snappier.
I don't really like Resurgens. There's a reason it fits well with the crest; it fits right into the city of Atlanta's crest. Let's stop copying from Atlanta.
A few ideas: MARK TWAIN "Always do right." (My favorite. The full quote goes on: "this will gratify some people and astonish the rest") "Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company" (or just "Hell for the company") "Friends in both places" (full quote: "I don't like to commit myself about heaven and hell - you see, I have friends in both places.") FLANNERY O'CONNOR "When in Rome, do as you done in Milledgeville." ALICE WALKER "Never be the only one" WILLIAM FAULKNER "A gentleman can live through anything" "The basest of all things is to be afraid" "Try to be better than yourself" TENNESSEE WILLIAMS "Enthusiasm is the most important thing in life" MARGARET MITCHELL "Tomorrow is another day" RALPH ELLISON "Life is to be lived"
I like the idea of having it be Atlanta themed somehow, like "Resurgence" or "Risen from the Ashes." If not, I like Eternal Vigilance. Imagine a scarf which on one side reads the team name - "Atlanta FC" for example's sake, and "Risen from the Ashes" on the other. You could also have some pretty sweet scarves/shirts that read "The Brotherhood" and "Risen from the Ashes". The crumbling of the Silverbacks could be seen as the ashes from which we are rising I suppose...
"Never be the only one" and "You'll never walk alone" evoke similar emotions. Also, "never be the only one" seems appropriate because unlike Sons of Ben, the mission of this group is not to get one team off the ground in one city, but hopefully a number of teams in a number of cities, in a number of leagues and across several states. Regardless of what motto is chosen, I do like the idea of a motto based off a quote from a Southern writer or historical figure. No latin, please.
"I am here to chew bubblegum and kick a$$ and I am all out of bubblegum." Roddy Piper - They Live 1987
"Separated by land, United through Brotherhood" or something along those lines to include the whole Southeast perhaps, not just Atlanta.
i actually like 'loud and proud'. El bo, you done good. resurgent is technically the best one though. i deffinately think we should sing outkast songs though "we know where you live and we seen what you drive and we say we're gonna put one in your helmet' (a little adapted) gawd i hope we get a team
