I think he is commenting on the very frenetic pace of life in the U.S. I've had the good fortune to travel to Italy three times in the past three years and the far more relaxed pace of life (store closings in the middle of the day), no one pushing you out of the restaurant to free up a table for another sitting, etc. are things you just don't see in the run of the mill in the U.S.
Yeah yeah, but still a tad broad, like saying ALL Eastern Europeans smoke at pack of Marlboro's at the half. I know Sahili did, but can I say Boskovic did as well?
I can't hate on a guy for being homesick. He made his decision based off of overall quality of life. He was homesick and was dealing with culture shock for two years. It's one of the risks you run with foreign DP's who don't know much about the U.S. Doesn't take away from him being a class act, playing beautiful soccer, taking the pay cut to finish out the season, and playing hard until his final whistle when he scored at the end against Houston. He waited until the end of the season like a mature adult to end his contract to United would have plenty of time to prepare without him.
That's only because he stayed too far north. You go South far enough you can't get those people to spit out a sentence without the hour hand moving.
I've spent half my life up, and half down from the MDL. The colonial coast is very similar. We hustle. The difference is that the north steals your money in front of you, the south steals it behind your back. But make no mistake the hustles on. Past the Proc. Line, still the wilderness to me. and WC is so hispanosiatic, it's like a different universe. I have no judgement - other then I don't get what they do out there...
The Mason Dixon Line is way way up north, there are at least a state and a half below it that would never be considered as "the south" You could argue Virginia below Richmond (I wouldn't buy your argument but many do), but not north of there is yankee territory You are using the wrong definition of "hustle" to make your point and I have no clue where you're talking about with WC (west coast maybe?) and Proc. Line, or whatever else you mentioned. I ain't that smart. Being in a hurry to do just about anything is highly over-rated. Other than maybe getting to the hospital after you've been shot. Almost everything else can wait til tomorrow
Agreed, everyone who I live around would too. The yankees think anything over 14 st. bridge is the deep south. I did when I first got to DC. ROTFL Am I? Southerns work hard, not fast. That was my use of "hustle", 2b. The Proc. Line and WC is west coast. Depends where your shot?
Bratty NoVa kids aside, there ain't much about Richmond that's like the north. I mean, if you don't say "hi" and make eye contact to people in the sidewalk, you are a piece of shit.
See, there's your difference right there - in the south, we say "hey" When I moved up north and you'd say Hey to someone they'd get all defensive and say "hey what?" or just give you a dirty look and turn back and ignore you. Very hard to adjust to. They also wanted to give me coca-cola when I asked for "a coke" instead of asking "what kind of coke" I wanted so that I could reply "7-up or Pepsi". Strange people, yankees
And yet my family in Baltimore would swear they are southern bonified, until they me my in-laws... "Oh bless their hearts"
Also in the South & actually about the whole country minus the NE, it is acceptable for strangers to talk to you. While at a travel stop me & some local starting talking & my wife came over looking concerned. I explained to her later we weren't on the East Coast anymore & it was OK to talk to strangers.
i think this means Richmond is pretty much in it's own category. Which is great, because we Richmonders tend to think we are the bees-knees anyway.
I would give you a piece of my mind for that slur on Southerness, but my mouth is full of grits. (And BTW, I think you meant "addlePATES.")
