It's not great for Bobby. Osako is a polished CF who may start for Japan at the World Cup. He was on Funkel's personal wish list and 1860 punched above its weight in nabbing him. Think of it like if say, Agudelo or even Johannsson suddenly showed up. It sounds like Bobby will have to compete for time on the wing for the time being.
Hain is rumored to be leaving and he can play both wing and striker, so not really too bad news. It is sad he was not given the same chance Lauth was given to show what he can do, but that's nothing new. Cooper and other strikers were not given the many, many games Lauth had been given to score. Typical. Let us hope Osako can 1) acclimate, 2) score or assist more than is being done now and 3) stay healthy.
So Osako has signed, Friend is going to the Galaxy, Hain may still leave and Tomasov is also rumored to want out. IF Bobby plays hard he can remain #3 in the striker depth chart and #3 on the wind midfield chart. IMHO, Lauth does not deserve much more time to score. If he plays with Osako and does not start scoring in 2-3 games he should be benched for Bobby. We all know that won't happen though. Lauth is German and the club does not bench Germans for foreigners...but we can still hope.
Bobby started a recent friendly against Fabian and Hoffenheim on Jan. 16: http://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de...ief.671d65e0-3851-4516-8f36-9cc06ca3bb3c.html
It seems the line up Bobby was in was mostly the second string offense. The coach divided up the starters across the two teams. It seems Bobby's crew was a bit more aggressive than the second crew given the reports I have read. There is a friendly with St. Pauli today, so we will see if he plays.
Here's the ticker for the match today. Hain and Osako starting up front. Would seem Bobby might have fallen down the pecking order...just a guess though. http://www.tz.de/sport/1860-muenche...slager-belek-tuerkei-live-ticker-3322590.html
That was just announced before game time. At the time the intial roster was released he was not on the starting roster. Hard to tell why, maybe it was the last minute injury. This is still not a good sign. If he is only able to do rehab this week it will not bode well for him. Funkel is likely to keep players up on the bench who are 100% fit and who have shown 100% during the winter training. If Bobby misses out it could mean he drops back to the second team to get match fitness he missed this week. We will see how this affects him and how bad the injury is. A brief write up about the match and comments here.
Appears it is his recurring thigh muscle problem he's had since that knock he took at the beginning of the season. Will not train with the team today, more pool jogging. http://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de...ood.bf2b1717-0b38-479d-84f4-935b7a555a53.html
Cannot say for sure but the last two pics here look like Bobby. If so it is a good sign he in sprint training. http://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de...g-5.9b846e48-d8b5-4f79-a95f-9433bb25860b.html
Oh, that's easily Bobby in the orange vest. Asian-African American - Hawaiian guys aren't normally seen in Germany ---- or anywhere really!
That's not Bobby in the orange vest and green boots??? Damn. I must have bad eyes. Bobby had green boots in the pics you referenced. *edit* Of course I'm using my phone to post so pics could be grainy and a little deceiving.
That's not even close. This dude appears to have some facial hair, which Wood does not. He is sprinting in the last 2 pics though.
Yeah I was talking about the last two pics (16-17). The guy in the orange vest is Marcus Steinhoefer. He's been to Hawaii, likes rap music and sushi but as far as I know is not a Hawaiian-African-Nippon Islander.
Bobby's injury was not that bad and he was back in action today against FSV Frankfurt. Last pick the best. http://www.tz.de/sport/1860-muenche...-belek-fsv-frankfurt-fotostrecke-3332512.html
So there is this report in the München dailies. It lists the winners and losers for the training camp. Bobby is listed as a loser, which I think is harsh...at least for the reasons they give. While it may be true that Hain has worked his way up to challenge Lauth, I don't think that does Bobby irreparable harm. He is more flexible than Lauth and Hain and, with Tomasov leaving, gives him another chance at wing too. http://www.tz.de/sport/1860-muenchen/belek-bilanz-gewinner-rejek-verlierer-wood-3336267.html "Bobby Wood: The Turkey trip from the beginning did not go well for the Hawaiian. Half of the team had already boarded the plane to Belek, but Wood was still in the departure hall; blissfully asleep, responding to nothing. Tomasov and Wannenwetsch did everything but could not wake their colleague. In Belek came the next mishap: muscular problems. For two days Wood could only do aqua jogging, now he lags well behind in the scramble for a seat next Osako. But there is hope for Wood. A close friend is said to be having a talk with Bobby, urge him to turn off the Playstation and stop playing until midnight."
1860 sign Andreas Ludwig from Hoppenheim on a end of season loan. He plays MF and WMF as well as AM. Another person for Bobby to worry about. However, given that this kid is young and inexperienced, it signals that Funkel is not anti-youth. Also, this kids is very short (5'6") and small in size so Bobby has that over him, but he will have to get more aggressive and work hard to earn a spot. More so now.
Wood playing in the second half of their last test. http://www.tz.de/sport/1860-muenche...n-sv-groedig-gruenwalder-stadion-3342341.html
Game kicks off soon but Bobby not on the roster. Not sure why. He had been in training and listed as available, but had been taking extra rehab this week.
He did play in a Feb. 5 match for the pros and against the 1860 reserves - but he didn't score and played poorly. At least he's not injured. http://www.fussball-vorort.de/verei...:-"Das-Ziel-ist,-Düsseldorf-zu-schlagen"_8693
1860 stinking up the pitch today. Funkel goes with the 4-4-2 in a double six formation and is down 0-1. Bobby Wood is in the building. Went on for Lauth.
