http://www.nllinsider.com/2009/01/2...and-major-league-lacrosse-franchise-for-2009/ It looks like ground sharing could be just around the corner. Opinions? Concerns? Any worries about wear and tear on the field or lines that would need to be painted and erased? Can it succeed? Is it a money pit in the making? B
We already have a Lacrosse side and they play at ACC. WHat do we need another one for? I guess I don't mind them coming in provided: TFC is the priority tenant, it doesn't prevent us from getting grass, that lacrosse lines aren't visible during TFC games and the stands remain optimised for soccer.
You probably know, but there's two kinds of lacrosse, box and field. Box plays in arenas and field on fields. MLL is field lacrosse ... In my opinion box lacrosse is like arena football ... it's not what the sport is meant to be. But anyway. I dunno if the lines are much different ... still, ya, the wear and tear... hey if it gets worn out earlier than otherwise, and they replace it with grass that's ok with me. Worst thing might be that they nurse that patio carpet along for yrs and yrs.
Always on the cards, in my opinion. An MLL team plays at the Rhinos SSS in Rochester after all:- http://www.rochesterrattlers.com/ Judging by the Rock they should be able to make a go of it in TO as well.
Maybe this could be the push to give Lamport Stadium a bit more of an upgrade (i.e. give it the dome in the winter time and more stands) and let the lacrosse team play there. The small investment from the MLL side (most likely an MLSE product anyways) may be enough to get MLSE off the hook for public use of BMO.
There is an awful amount of irony in this move. Lacrosse seems like a good fit if there are no issues with the field size.
I cannnot see a field lacrosse team succeeding here in Toronto. Box lacrosse is the game played in southern Ontario and even then, there are no teams in the city. Judging by Lamport Stadium, the lines for soccer and lacrosse are different and that is a problem. They are not as big a problem as football lines, but they will ruin the look of the field Aesthetics are important. The suggestion of Lamport Stadium as the homebase for a future team is a good idea. The field turf was only installed last year and already has lines for lacrosse. In fact, games are played there every night. Furthermore, the stadium seats close to 10,000 and would be a good place for a new club to start that does not have a fan base.
Not completely impossible but I think Paul Beirne recently mentioned elsewhere posting under his mlsintoronto username that better than expected progress is happening where grass is concerned but that Lamport isn't a factor in that.
I have an idea. MLSE could simply employ twenty or thirty athletes, and have them play soccer, lacrosse, hockey, or basketball, depending on the day. They could recruit them from the construction guys working on the overpriced, tiny condos they are building next door to the ACC. Given the recent success of the respective teams, does anybody believe there would be any difference in the quality of play, or the success of these clubs?
What a shocker...smenge with a negative comment. Now the condos are overpriced and tiny....and what this has to do with anything is beyond me. This could possibly be considered an attempt at humor, except he just isn't funny. Now go ahead Blizzard...I'm sure I've earned some sort of infraction. Poor innocent smenge, attacked again when all he was trying to do was spread his "joy" to the TFC forum. As far as Lacrosse at BMO goes....why not? The turf can't be any more abused than it is already. If it wears out...they can get more. As long as there's no lines left on the field I would be fine with a Lacrosse team at BMO. I mean TFC, doesn't own BMO so it's not as if we have a say in the matter.
Smenge is entitled to his opinions just as anybody else here is. If he wants to be somewhat negative, that is his right. You don't like it. That is your right as well. As long as he is not baiting other users, I don't have a problem with it. That is the line and his post certainly did not cross that line. B
Well, this may be the solution to get grass and expand BMO. I'd say put in a clause that has the TO LAX club put up half the money for grass and ground crewe which would ease the pressure on TFC to do it on their own. This would enable for the extra money to go to stadium expansion. I think this could be a good thing if it happens. The only bad thing I could see happening is a doubleheader of soccer/lacrosse on a Saturday. That would be interesting...
