There's a difference between a country having the best 11-20 players to come together and play as a team, and a country having the best sports league of a particular sport.

I'll raise your WBC example with this: the history of Japanese players over here in Major League Baseball VS the history of American players over there in the Nippon League.

Different times, different tournaments, different levels of seriousness from the Mexican teams.

    http://repeatingislands.com/2011/05...blower-is-applauded-for-exposing-fifa-scandal

The Telegraph of London yesterday reported that a secret dossier on the corruption probe revealed that it was Anton Sealey, President of the Bahamas Football Association, who “led” a group of Caribbean football officials who exposed an alleged attempt by an aspiring President of the International Federation of Football Associations to bribe regional officials with $40,000 each to support his presidential bid.

But those aren't comparable. Two different tournament structures. So you have to use your opinion that the CONCACAF tiltes won when it was the CONCACAF Cup were more impressive than the ones not won when it was the CONCACAF League. So its not really a fact like you were calling for.

Been following MLS since 1996. The progress is unmistakable. And the steadily improving record against non-Mexican teams has been documented. MLS teams have won and tied games in Mexico. It's only a matter of time before there's a breakthrough.

I think that if those CCCup-winning DC and LA teams had played the current CCL format, neither of them sees the semifinals. But that's just my opinion.

it does not matter how serious are other teams or leagues MLS has to be serious and prove their levelgrowth.
like this is just my example in how I level the world teams
    from one to ten level
teams from europe champions league 8, 9, 10
    copa libertadores 4,5,6,7,8
    concacaf 2,3, 4,5,6,7
    mx ligue 5,6,7
    MLS 3, 4, 5
so lets say that GALAXY was 5 in 2012 so now with beckham, junhino, posible donovan
leaving, galaxy will go back to 4 level so to win the CCL title deminish againts
    5,6 or 7 level teams.
so how serious is the galaxy team, MLS , or DON GARBER about proving blatter wrong ?

The best expectation is to have us be #1 in the secondary league system of a "global pyramid". Shoot for the stars and land on the summit. How we know if we're doing well is that we are consistently exporting "any" talent to Europe's Big 4, bonus to the top clubs in each league. These transactions determine our "worth". Whether a MLS capped club can complete with an open-ended Liga MX club is apples to naranjas.

Your question isn't 100% clear...but if the question is, if the CONCACAF Champions League was played in a format where all games were played in the U.S., could an MLS team win it?

The answer is yes, absolutely, without qualification. Look at the MLS teams' home records in the current format, and it's clear that the MLS teams can hold their ground against anyone when they're playing at home.

Here's why: in the entire history of the CCL in its current format to date, no MLS team has lost a knockout round game at home to a non-MLS team. Ever. There have been home wins and home draws, but zero home losses in the quarterfinals, semifinals or finals. That's how important home-field advantage is in soccer.

A home draw isn't a great result in the current format--but when there's no return leg, it gets the job done. That's why you can't compare CCC results with CCL results.

So Monterrey's 1-0 CCL-winning game at Rio Tinto was what exactly?

I don't think there's too much to be said on this topic. Blatter waffles on about things he knows nothing about.

MLS has certainly shown more improvement in 18 years than arguably any other league on the planet. There are hundreds of leagues worldwide, based in nations where football is the main sport, with a headstart 0f many decades over MLS which this league has caught up with in terms of play, finance and reputation.

My biggest problem with what Blatter has said is that MLS genuinely deserves some firm praised for what it's acheived. Meanwhile, praising China when they already have clubs struggling financially due to overspending, just illustrates the level of the man's ignorance.

Ultimately though, he and FIFA are generally best ignored most of the time. They serve little purpose. It's a shame that he is afforded such a luxuriously lifestyle through a role he fills so poorly.

Yeah, my bad. For some reason I forgot the first leg of that game was at Monterrey.

Still...one loss, by one goal, in a final. That's a pretty damn good home record.

I'm still waiting for the facts to back up your opinion. So far the only one you've provided is that in your opinion the CCC was a better tournament to judge quality than the CCL.

there is another statement based on opinion, but the fact is that in recent times there was
a tourney called superliga played by mexican teams vs mls teams all played in USA soil
and the results back up my statement.

Wow, you really have no idea what you mean by "FACT", do you? Why should a title from a differently-formatted competition than what's available today be a fact about the quality of the league? Unless today's MLS can participate in the CCC format its only your OPINION that the CCC is an equal tournament to the CCL and as such the older teams winning the CCC shows they're better. I don't think the CCC is the equivalent to the CCL (that's an OPINION, not a FACT) so I don't think you can declare that old MLS teams were better because they won the CCC, because it was easier to win than the CCL.

This is where Blatter's point, if any, fails. His comments about MLS can't be divorced from their context. He's praising a Chinese league that is hemorrhaging money and plagued by match-fixing scandals, almost in the same breath as his criticism of MLS.

The even more hilarious thing is that the Chinese Super League, which he's portraying as a success in comparison to MLS, also plays a calendar year season. Oops.

The USA made it to the World Cup semifinals in 1930 and gets credit from FIFA for placing third. By your logic, the USMNT has been getting worse since 1930.

How are the results of actual games, in actual tournaments, "opinions"?

I'm assuming it's the usual message board "logic":
    1. assertions the poster disagrees with = opinions
    2. assertions the poster agrees with = facts
