Jim Blankenship has been hired as the assistant coach at Florida Atlantic. http://fausports.ocsn.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/020503aaa.html He was the long time coach at Div II Lynn University and then moved to U of Miami when they started their Division I program. Does anyone know why he left Miami to begin with? I know it ws out of the blue, and it obviously was not for a better position, since he ended up as an assistant at JU for a season.
Seven years later, I'd like to know why too. And why did he leave Miami for FGCU? And will he leave FGCU for FIU now, as has been rumored?
He's still there, but there are rumors Blankenship is moving there so I presume the FIU coach is exiting.
In Baltimore, I heard JB talking about a new three year deal he is about to sign at FGCU. Not a lot of room for FIU rumors in that.
Interesting, and also interesting is that this is the only thread to which you've responded. Vested interest?
I was thinking, if he was trying to recruit you (or your daughter), then perhaps him stating he is staying is less than factual. Coaches say lots of things to get recruits, kids sign up based (partially) on the coach. Of course I don't know who you are or if you are even interested in FGCU (or FIU, for that matter), but it bears consideration. What I heard was pretty credible too, so obviously there's some misinformation going on, whether deliberate or not.
Maype I misunderstood and you were mentioning that only one freshman was listed on the roster? I haven't looked. Most of them quit after winter break. The last two quit within the last month.
JB was hung out to dry by his assistant in the spring of 2001. she got some of the players to go to the administration to complain about him in hopes she would get the job. she got JB out, then didn't get the job. justice served. info from a highly credible first-person source.
I guess the freshmen were not needed. A-Sun regular season co-champs and tournament champions too. Not exactly sure what happened at Miami or with the recent freshman class, but apparently this guy knows what he is doing.
