Yea same, how many black americans did you see in the last USMNT match?
How many in US ice-hockey team? Also in MLS and NHL? Black americans at least play soccer much much more than ice-hockey. [/thread]

Now this is getting ridiculous. You can't compare ice hockey and soccer. They countries where Ice Hockey is the most popular have very very low black populations. And despite the fact that the NHL has like 30 teams, hockey is very much a niche sport in the States as well. The furthest south any one on the national team comes from is Illinois. >95% of the team comes from the Northeast or some state that borders Canada.

Wow now we are saying that one of the big 4 sports in US with long history and strong foundation is more of a niche sport than soccer.

For players yes it is a niche sport. How many NHL players are from Texas or Florida?

So it goes back to my point. Whatever the reasons, soccer is doing better than one of the big 4 sports in the area of black people playing the sport. So it's a matter hockey needs to worry about it, if it was even a issue.

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. As far as participation is concerned. And are we talking about developing players here or we talking about getting a team in every major region in the country, because that's what the NHL does. Just because the Carolina Hurricanes exist doesn't mean the Carolinas are producing hockey players of any worth.

As someone who grew up in Minnesota playing hockey I can tell you, hockey fans don't care whether or not black people play hockey. If they do, great, but it's not an issue. Soccer has a different dynamic, and comparisons only go so far.

I never had problems per se either, just the atmosphere being different from an NHL/NFL/MLB game (granted this was a couple of years ago.) My point was the two sports aren't the best comparisons.

In my high school, a third of the black guys played soccer. The other one played football, and the other one tennis. :D

To suggest that black people don't play soccer is ridiculous. I think the author was under the impression that other sports are a better alternative, or the fact that black people have no talent in soccer. One only has to look at Pele, one of the greatest footballing legends of all time. Black people don't play soccer? In the English Premier League, there are countless examples of black players who perform to a high standard on a weekly basis.

The header should be "African-Americans don't play soccer?"

There are a few to be sure, and they usually come from immigrant backgrounds. Basketball and football is where they gravitate.

For Pete's sake. Read the book, not just the title. The book is an attempt to refute the idea held by some Americans that black people don't play soccer. The title comes from a remark made to the author, who is black, by his ignorant boss.

What was Eddie Pope's immigrant background? Or DeMarcus Beasley's? Eddie Johnson's? Roy Lassiter ? Cobi Jones? Zach Thornton? Dante Washington? Des Armostrong? Jimmy Banks? Brian West? Marvell Wynne? Sean Franklin? Kevin Alston? Marcus Tracy? Corey Ashe? Ali Curtis? C.J. Brown? Leonard and Maxwell Griffin? Dasan Robinson? Eddie Hawkins? Mike Banner? Evan Whitfield? Calen Carr? Alex Dixon? James Riley? Troy and Jamil Roberts? Jeremiah White? Clyde Simms? Kyle Veris? Jamil Walker? Marshall Leonard? John Wilson? Bilal Duckett? Kevin Ellis? Josh Ford? Aaron Horton? Ross LaBaeux? Brandon McDonald? Rauwshan McKenzie? Justin Morrow? Lamar Neagle? Chris Schuler? Ethan White? Darrius Barnes?

Plenty of black American soccer players don't come from immigrant backgrounds. Suggesting otherwise is as ignorant as not realizing the sarcasm in the title of this thread.

So again more American Blacks play soccer than ice-hockey which is one of the 'big four' in US. So what...

For individual sports, American Blacks don't play swimming, tennis, ski, etc compare to track and field, so what...

    dumb dumb..

Usually, as in more often than not. Of course there are a few, just like there are a few latino NFL players.
