Werders squad for today: Wiese, Mielitz, Pasanen, Wesley, Borowski (?), Arnautovic, Fritz, Avdic, Marin, Silvestre, Wagner, Frings, Pizarro (?), Mertesacker, Stevanovic, Trinks, Balogun, Schmidt, Bargfrede. Borowski took the flight with the team to Frankfurt, but it is not yet sure, if he can play. Same with Claudio Pizarro, who stayed in Bremen and will do some medical checks this morning. If the checks are positive he will take a flight to Frankfurt and arrive last minute. Mertesacker had a flu this week, but made it into the squad, while Aaron Hunt had to stay in Bremen and cure his cold.
Pizarro also flew to Frankfurt this afternoon. But I guess he won´t play. Eintracht hasn´t been convincing in the first match with their new coach Christoph Daum. Hopefully there won´t be a positive effect on the team tonight due to the change in coaching staff. But anyway: there is no reason why we shouldn´t be convinced of our team winning. Finally the defense has stabilised itself, at least compared to how easy it was to score against us a couple of months ago, and our players are literally running for their lives. Success tonight would be a huge step towards Klassenerhalt! Auf gehts Werder, kämpfen und siegen! ps: really glad Hunt is not going to play - haters gonna hate
Bremen has taken over control of the game now. Some good chances for us, only one for Frankfurt by Gekas, which was saved in a fantastic manner by Wiese.
Goal by Pasanen after corner. Not given. Wrong decision. Wagner only stands in the 5m-area. Referee thought he´d interefere Frankfurts goalkepper.
Halftime. Two more great chances just before the whistle goes. Pizarro and Wagner dont manage to score from very short distance. Interesting game. Field advantage for Frankfurt. But Bremen has been the better team by far.
I had a friend who went to the match. She was mentioning how the Bremen supporters had fire crackers and that the overall atmosphere by both sets of supporters was very good. sorry, that is all that I had to add as I didn't get to see the match on tv.
Yeah. That´s right, too. We had several chances to win the game early. But Eintracht had even more in the second half. And by the way: this was the 14th match in a row in which we couldn´t keep a clean sheet!
Yeah, it hurts everywhere. At the defense the last investment into a young player was 2008 (Prödl, 2.5 million €). The defense is aging and new breath is needed. And at the offense we have lots of players, but this season no single Werder player (exception Almeida, but he is gone) is under the top 30 BL goalgetters. That is a shame for a club like Werder.
