I was talking to Erik Visser at the last game, and he noted that when USF played Cal, it was like they had another offensive threat in Bingham because of his ability to get the ball directly to the forwards from a goal kick...

Glad to see Bingham insetting a shot in Europe./ I know his agent has ties there and he use to train with Cagliari in the Serie A a few years ago when he was in college. Hope he makes it but it won't be that easy. I do think he will improve in the air if he gets more playing time. Time will tell.
I think we kicked the can down the road one more season. With the expansion draft looming end of the season, that is when I think we find our answer then.
Jon Busch born and raised in Queens NY. Hmmmmmmmm! Don't most New Yorkers only live in New York & Miami?
So you are predicting we'll leave Busch unprotected for the Expansion draft? (Miami won't be next year, maybe 2016)
Depends on what year he has this season. If he suddenly gets benched, I don't see him being on the team next year. Also, he will turn 39 by the middle of next season. Sooner or later, the ax will fall. Remember how everyone thought Joe Cannon would last forever?
That was the impression I got around 08/09. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...nnon-thread-the-next-generation.644024/page-5
I wouldn't be surprised if NYCFC picked him up. Doyle told me straight to my face that Bingham is definitely the goalie of the future.
Remember the part where how broke his ankle in practice? And we happened to hve a proven veteran keeper on the roster who claimed that spot and never let it go..
He's be closer to his community service passion (North Carolina? Virginia? I can't remember where he said it was in his speech at the SSV dinner).
was just about to say......The Joe only lost it because he broke himself. and Busch was good enough to not relinquish the spot. And Buschy keeps himself in much better shape then The Joe. At the right price it is possible we squeeze 2-3 more years out of Busch, its really his to lose. Dude ages like wine. That and, we really dont owe anything to Bingham tbh as far as heir to the throne goes. Its a Favre-Rodgers situation. Busch is gonna have to step down or falter, and David is going to have to go and get it when the time comes. You dont just give someone a spot like that. Even if Busch is gone next year i completely expect to bring in a vet for competition.
Both Joe Cannon and Jon Conway had to wait quite a while to get their shots at keeper (and Conway had to go to NY to get his)
I fully expect Bings to be our goalie some day. It might happen this year, or it might happen next year, but one of these days, he's going to replace Jon Busch. Busch is great, and his attitude is invaluable. But someday, he will have to retire. I hope, I really, really hope, that somehow, we can keep Jon Busch in our organization. (I want to bring Cannon back too. Maybe we only get one of them in the coaching ranks, or FO, or whatever.) GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Interestingly, another CAL Bears GK, Eric Kronberg (with only 5 MLS games to his name) has been waiting around since 2006 sitting on the KC bench and finally is getting his chance. If he uses him as an example, I'm sure Bingham can be patient one more year. Sooner or later though, someone will fly!
