just moving this thought from the post game thread because i think it deserves its own thought. For those who missed, Bingham pretty much threw down the gauntlet. He either wants to start or wants out.

all season i thought we were just gonna ease in to Bingham starting this next season. But then i see Busch getting all sorts of horizontal on a Beckham freekick from 20 yards out like our final match. He did it all season. Busch is still one of the top goalkeepers in the league. Busch is an absolute boss in the box, you never see confusion from defenders on account of him. In light of this season Im officially in the extend Busch for 4 camp, give him a solid contract. Hes shown no signs of letting up.

Besides......you KNOW in 3 years maximum we are going to homegrown MacLintosh, who is an absolute boss from our academy. And funny enough we have ANOTHER youth goalkeeper getting playing time with the U-17s after MacLintosh. My personal opinion.......but maybe we should look at trading bingham.

Perhaps Bingham for Feilhaber + allocation to take that hefty contract off their hands? They are not not nooottt happy with Shuttlesworth and are looking for a number 1. i think we should oblige.

Keep Busch and see what you can get from Bingham. He should be really appealing to teams, especially since he's in a GA contract.

If I'm the FO and its really the ultimatum, I try to see who in the draft is looking for a gk and offer him.

Next year, we will be playing more than one tournament,CONCA Champions, MLS, USOC, so both golies will be needed

This! Both because FO's are jerks and don't like anything that even sounds like it might, in another context, be something like an ultimatum, and because we have young keepers in waiting in our academy, and because quality GK's are plentiful and cheap in our great nation, and because The Busch is still stud.

Yeah, if David has demanded to start or be traded, I'd start shopping him right now. I'm sure we can find plenty of takers. Could we really get Feilhaber for Bingham? That would kill!

And we have Evan Newton on the squad and he's alright. David has overestimated his value, or maybe he just really wants to be traded.

    GO QUAKES!!

im talkin up the new england board too, they said theyll send benny and a keg of sam adams our way. there is no downside to this :D, they love the idea

like i brought up, we play the kansas city/bobby convey role. You tell benny.....you come here you play for a contender, you will be an asset to us if you give your all. But we will not have any problems benching your butt if your not giving your all, we have the quality to see you firmly planted to the bench.

And new england really, really doesnt want to use their 4 spot on a goalkeeper like Andre Blake early. Theyd prefer and go defense like Jared Watts.

Where is the source of Bingham's discontent? Just what Falvo posted on bigsoccer?

Bingham is number 2 behind a 36 year old goalie. Yes, goalies have more longevity as players, but, from here on Bingham is only going to increase his playing time, especially with CCL coming up next season. If he does want out he better hope he doesn't end up on a team with a 30 year old goalie.

This! No way you give up David. He's a great keeper, and will be our starter at some point. Next year will be a very busy year with MLS, Champions, and USOC as stated above. He is going to get a ton of playing time, and will likely end up our starter in 2014.

I love Busch. In fact, when we came back in 2008 I pleaded on the boards to snatch him up in the expansion draft rather than *gasp* Cannon. Busch has some good years left, and will be solid in 2013. Next year is the perfect transition year with the heavy schedule. David gets a lot of time in tournament play, and Busch finishes out the season. At the end of 2013 David becomes the starter and we trade off Busch while he still has value.

Bignham being a GA frees up a lot of cap space though. Could get Bernardez a real partner at CB with Busch's salary.

I agree...but Corrales is likely to retire, and I wouldn't be surprised if Stephenson isn't brought back next year. That would free up some decent cap space to pick up another rock solid center back.

we have a LOT of guys who may not be back next year; Corrales, Stephenson, Sercan, Gjersten, Ward that are going to be coming off the books and we will have NICE stack of cash to work with on an upgrade at central defense.

    Exactly!
But do we also need at upgrade at Center Mid? I like Croninja, I think when he gets into trouble is when he has to cover for his midfield partner. I think we've seen that in a couple of games down the stretch. So I'd be inclined to find a better Baca, or at least someone who could share time with Baca. Maybe a player who is a little older who could mentor Baca? I think that might have been the plan with Moreno last season (ugh! last seaon! 2012 is over!), but clearly that didn't work out. I might look for such a player in Central or South America. (In case anyone has missed it, I like the way Central and South Americans play, and their track record of success in MLS.)

Another question is whether Diaz Pizarro is good enough for our team? Or should we look to replace him too?

And do we have any clue if this alleged "ultimatum" from Bingham is true or not? Is it maybe, just the ravings of a pizza delivery guy?

It is useful to consult the source because it remains conceivable that falvo may have innocently misconstrued David Bingham's comments or the hearsay re-telling of them. I can understand a competitive player wanting playing time, but that doesn't make an expression of that desire an ultimatum.

Further, even if what falvo says is true in terms of David Bingham's mindset, there is a big difference between a private ultimatum and a public one. And if it was a private one, then I wish falvo would have kept it that way. It doesn't do Bingham or the team any favors to publicize it.

Yeah and he makes $99k sitting on his duff. I just know Bingham is growing impatient as a backup....

So this thread which was based on certainty turns out just to be speculation? Maybe he did try your pasta.. ;)

It's not in the Quakes nor Bingham's best interest to part ways. CCL will stretch our depth and will mean a ton of playing time for Bingham. Our SS squad will be largely in tact and capable of another Cup run next year. However, 2014 may turn out to be a rebuilding year where we shake things up, and would be likely for Bingham to move up if he proves worthy.

I mean, Bingham played on the youth USMNT for a reason. He's a really good keeper, and will only get better with experience.

The question is do we want to make a short-sighted decision or a long term one? Do we try to build the team up next year and give him away for a field player, or keep him and develop him as our keeper of the future? I'm inclined for the later.

I didn't start the thread and I never speculated. All I'm saying is he wants to start or he will be gone and I don't blame him.

Busch isnt bad, but if the FO thinks Bingham is the real deal then he should be the starter going into the season. If Bingham struggles Busch can reclaim his spot. But goalkeeping is one area I think we could improve on. Jon is a solid keeper.. but hes not a special one.

yeah thats what sets the Joe apart for me, he may not be elite, but you could make an arguement for top 5 in the league easily. Hes a workhorse who deserves a re-up; tried and tested. Plus watching Chicago and DC with young promising keepers with shocking decisions in the back and failure to marshal the line makes me wonder if thats somethingg we want. We already got a taster in the Portland game. Sure he was bumped but hes gotta hold onto that. Im not saying that Bingham will turn out like that, but do we want to run that risk right now when we have a championship calibur team here....and now?

especially when in 3 years down the line everyone is splooging about MacLintosh.....we can just be all "hoooomegrooown ". And the U-17 youth national team starter we got right now.
