That's not it at all. The realignments are about making money and sharing it as a conference. There are precious little teams that can actually compete for the prize. Look at the list of national champions. There are perhaps a dozen teams that can compete for a national title. Everyone else is a pretender.
Given that Oklahoma State lost on the road to an Iowa State team that actually beat some people and given that the 2007 Mountaineers lost at home to a 5-7 Pitt team, it's pretty much a no-brainer to me. But I also understand that it's become something of a meme among Bammers to act like Oklahoma State lost to an NAIA program or somesuch and were thus entirely unfit to play for the BCS championship, but the 2011 Iowa State Cyclones were a competent team, even if they did finish 8th in the Big 12.
It's not that special. They've only played yearly since 1978. The USC game is special, as is the Navy game. They've got history. Meanwhile, the biggest piece of history that Notre Dame has with Michigan is that the legendary Michigan coach Fielding Yost was virulently anti-Catholic, worked to block Notre Dame entry into the Big Ten almost a century ago, and worked to keep other Big Ten schools from scheduling Notre Dame for decades.
The biggest detriment or obstacle that Oklahoma State had to being the legitimate second best team in the country to LSU was their strength schedule or lack thereof.
C'mon man. Be serious. That Iowa State team was as middle of the road as it gets. Sure, they were "competent" (which is apparently a compliment these days) but should a national championship quality team lose to them? No. They were the definition of average. Their six regular season losses were by an average of 3 TDs. They finished 6-7 with their other five wins coming against: FBS Northern Iowa (by one point) Iowa (7-6) Connecticut (5-7) Texas Tech (5-7) Kansas (2-10) Not exactly world beaters that lot. They beat one of the most overpaid coaches in FBS (Ferentz) and prevented two middle of the road teams from making a lower tier bowl game. La-Di-Da.

University of Miami AD resigns after only 18 months on the job, headed to Nebraska. Lincoln Journal-Star article
Just a reaction to the way he's leaving Miami after less than two years with the heat about to come down.
Yeah, but that happened before he was there. He worked for Barry Alvarez which helped him land this job, I'd imagine.
I don't blame him for the mess. I don't really "blame" him for anything; just don't like the timing much.
The $1M is in line with Texas and Oklahoma- I wouldn't go to Nebraska for less than $800K if their former big rivals can afford to pay their ADs over $900K. Plus, you're supposed to get out before the sanctions arrive --nothing wrong with that-- but youre supposed to have won something before you slip out the back door. That's a fair trade. Think of Kentucky and Calipari- they knew when they hired him that he'd be a risk to put them on probation, but a national title makes all that irrelevant, because even if the players are declared ineligible later, no one's going to act like you didn't win on the court.
Pete is giving Brutus all he can handle. Of course, this tends to happen when Purdue and Ohio state play. We all remember Holy Buckeye...
Purdue snatches defeat from the jaws of victory in the most Purdue way possible (save someone tearing an ACL also). Unreal.
Braxton Miller was taken from the sidelines directly to OSU hospital in the third quarter with was was described as a head injury.
I can't stand Pellini. I think he is a nasty mean spirited and miserable example of a human being. I truly wonder why any kid would go to Nebraska to be coached by the likes of him. It's like Spurrier at South Carolina, he another miserable human being, but he does know something about coaching football. Woe is any kid that wants to play quarterback for Captain Hook.
