The bowl system is a lot like Congress. Every hates Congress, but loves their Congressman. Everybody hates the bowl system, but loves seeing their team play a bowl game.

Honestly I don't care how many bowls there are of if a 6-7 team like UCLA gets to play in one. I love the bowl season and the fact that I have football to watch on the vast majority of December evenings.

What I do think should be changed is when the games are. All minor games before January 1, all the big games on the 1st or 2nd.

The link you provided didn't have quite as much venom as I'd hoped to see, but someone needed to say this to Erickson. I'm not even a PSU alum or fan, but I know when a scapegoat's being put on the spit to make everyone feel better. This goat is football.

    yeah, pretty much.

I have to disagree with you here. I don't need to watch any games that decide nothing of importance. In fact, I know I'm feeding (at least emotionally- I have no Nielsen box) an ugly B(C)S beast if I do.

They want me to pretend these exhibitions are meaningful in some way other than to provide entertainment. They are not, and as a grown man, I don't need to be entertained. I need a system that takes itself seriously enough that it strives not to entertain but choose a champion through competition that does not discriminate in favor of schedules made out of fear.

Georgia is the only SEC team with scrota.

That's part of why I've watched Boise State only twice in the last few years- they don't matter.

It's sports. None of it REALLY matters.

I have thoroughly enjoyed following OSU to the bowl games regardless of their rankings. I have traveled all over, met nice people and have seen places I wouldn't have if it wasn't for the bowl game.

But go ahead and say it doesn't matter.;)

Then let's all act like it!

no, I'm not going to do it, either.

    It does matter.

It matters because we both live comfortably enough that we can obsess over stuff like this. I have no plans of getting myself into a situation where I have to worry --not simply concern myself, but actually worry-- about anything "bigger" than sports that's within my control.

You need a bowl game because it gives you a reason to travel?

    Exactly.

Texas is 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Big XII. Do they deserve to be going to a bowl game? Probably not. Am I happy that they're in the Holiday Bowl? Yep. Am I happy that a very young team is getting three extra weeks of practice and another game? Yep. And at the end of the day, if there are a few extra bowl games around that are a bit goofy, whom exactly does it hurt?

Yet another reason Herbstreit is an idiot.

I would refer the gentleman to LSU's schedule this year.

Georgia did what Oregon did a couple years ago- they stooped to play one of those teams that isn't worth a B(C)S title game shot. UGA was able to keep the score close because it was so early in the season and Boise hadn't really gelled, but at least they were kind enough to play them. And at the end, it didn't cost them- LSU did, along with other losses. Most teams from a favored conference won't take that risk. That's what I meant, LSU's conference sched aside.

I sometimes look at a sports blog called Chan-Luu.org for amusement purposes. Here's a preview of the Badgers' Rose Bowl game for ya.

I thought parity was greater than ever today, but it really is pretty massive that we had ten conference champs.

Or, is it that we are rebranding our conference to the Massive Ten? Would that please the fans in Columbus?

It already began with a couple of others a few weeks ago decommitting. This class had been a top 15 class, it was supposed to be a big year for us in recruiting. Until early November happened.

Not having a coach named yet only hurts this recruiting class; but it's more important long term to make a very good hire right now than it is to hold on to the elite 2012 recruits.

one. That would be another ESPNU 150 prospect, Joey O'Connor, Offensive Tackle out of Colorado.

They also basically lost out on the #4 ranked player in the nation in Noah Spence. He was all PSU until the bomb dropped. Now he's deciding between OSU, Maryland, Florida, and LSU. He's from Pennsylvania, wanted to stay closer to home.

His dad wants him to stay close to home.. hence why he was a PSU silent commit, but once the bomb dropped he basically shot down any chance of going to PSU, so Maryland is now his 2nd favorite based on location and distance alone, behind Ohio St. (He loves him some Urban Meyer).

woulda been one helluva pull from PSU.. but oh well. Heh.

The ACC is an emerging conference, and it is a nice area with football-crazed fans. He'd have a good time there. And, yes, it is very close to Pennsylvania. A lot of Pennsyltuckians move to the Baltimore/DC area at some point. :D

I live 20 minutes from the Maryland campus. There's an open revolt to hang Randy Edsal. You think the uproar over Rich Rod was a big deal? The Terp alums are going bananas. Most of them hated the hire from day one. Besides dressing them up in the most hideous uniforms this side of 1996 MLS, they lost most of their games and looked horrible doing it. There are better ACC schools with an upside. There is some serious turmoil in College Park.
