Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com did a study of team popularity as measured by worldwide Google searches. Of course, by this measure, the Barclays Premier League dwarfs all of the North American leagues. But when restricted to North American leagues, there are three that are clearly the most popular: the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. Closely behind those are two others of roughly equal popularity: the NHL, and yes, Liga Bancomer MX. http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/theres-a-big-five-in-north-american-pro-sports/
It is impressive. I hardly search for LigaMX teams and I regularly watch LigaMX. Just for thought, a related story: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/...imits-of-big-data/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0
That's it right there, avid fans are the not really making the searches they know the direct site to their teams, probably it's the curious who want to get some info a team and like it was mentioned before Mexico has a population where less then half are able to access the interwebs.
